JC had everything
already planned for the big proposal. Since Emma was running late picking
him up, he had time to check just to make sure everything was ready.
He was on his cell phone in the room
he’d been staying in for the last few weeks. “Yes. Just for a few hours.
Put a sign or something saying the park won’t be open for a few hours, or
something. I don’t know. You’re brilliant, think something up.”
He was going to propose at the same
park where he had taken Emma on their first date. He was on the phone with
someone that was in charge in parks. He knew JC, and when JC had told him
what he was planning to do, he immediately agreed to closing down the park
just so JC could propose and carry out his plan.
“Thanks man, I really appreciate this.
Yeah, I’ll let you know what happens.” JC flipped off his phone, then tucked
it inside the duffel bag that contained everything he needed for the day.
Just as he was zipping up the bag,
Emma made her presence known.
“Ready to go?” she asked.
“Oh yeah.” He was definitely ready
to leave. There was nothing more he hated than hospitals. They gave him the
creeps.
Emma took a step forward and wrapped
her arms around his neck and hugged him close to her. “I’m so glad you’re
all right.”
He looked at her, and lost his train
of thought. “Come on, let’s go to the park,” he said.
“What?”
JC swallowed. “If that’s okay.”
“Yeah sure. I just wondered why.” She
shook it off then reached for his bag off the bed.
“No!” he said quickly, taking the bag
out of her hands. “I’ll take it.”
Emma just gave him a weird look and
followed him out.
---Later That Day---
“JC, is there something special happening
in this park tonight that you know of?” Emma asked looking around at all
the lit candles through the whole park.
He took her hand led her over to a
bench. “Not for the park, but for us.”
“What do you mean?”
“You do remember where we came for
our first date, right?”
“Of course. We had dinner then we came
here. What's going on JC?” She started to realize he had something up his
sleeve.
“I wanted to do something for you.
To thank you for everything. Saving my life, and taking me back after what
I did.”
“You didn't have to do that. I love
you JC, and that's all that mattered to me.”
“But I also brought you here because
I want to ask you something,” he said quietly.
“Sure. What is it?”
“Remember I said we needed to talk
about something?”
When JC got down on bended knee, Emma
covered her mouth. “Oh my God…”
JC reached in his pocket and took out
the velvet box and opened it. “I had this whole speech planned out but then
I figured I'd just say what's in my heart at this moment, so that's what
I'm going to do.”
JC took the ring out and held it in
his hand then closed his hand. “Ever since I met you, I knew you were the
only one for me. I didn't realize how much I really needed you until I lost
you. I promised myself that if I ever got another chance, I would do everything
possible to make you happy because I never want to lose you. I can't lose
you. You are like my air, I can't live without you. I love you with all my
heart and soul. I’m going to spend the rest of my life showing you how much
you mean to me. That’s if you’ll let me.” He looked up at her, his hands
shaking as he held the box to show her the ring. “Will you marry me?”
JC opened his hand and held out the
ring.
There were a few tears rolling down
her cheeks. She didn’t even have to think about her answer. She pulled him
into her arms and hugged him tight. “Yes,” she whispered
That was the happiest moment of JC's
life. He wiped his eyes after pulling away and then placed the ring on her
left hand then kissed her palm.
Emma took his hand and helped him up
after standing up herself. They both just stared at each other for a few
moments, then they both leaned in and shared a passionate kiss.
“I can’t believe this,” JC said.
Emma linked their fingers together.
“You thought I’d say no?”
“I didn't know what you'd say. Especially
since I have to go back on the road in a few months.”
“That doesn't matter anymore. Another
thing I learned besides I love you when you were in that coma was that we'll
always be in each others hearts and that can't change. No matter where you
are, I will still be with you.”
Those words touched him. “I just love
you so much. Sometimes I don’t know how I got so lucky.”
She kissed him again to shut him up.
When she pulled away she smiled. “Sometimes love is just unexpected, you
don't know how much you really love them. Until something bad happens.”
“So since you aren't mad at me anymore,
how about we go for a walk along the lake?”
“I’ve got a better idea.” Emma whispered
something into his ear, making him grin.
“I love your ideas.”
