(3 Weeks Later)
“Hey, what are you up to?” Dasia asked Justin over the phone.
“Nothing really. Just wondering what you were doing today.”
“I just got back from the store and I was just going to listen to the new
cd's I got. Did you want to do something?”
“Yeah, can I come over?”
“Sure. I tried calling you all afternoon but you weren't there.”
“I'll explain when I get there, okay?”
“Alright. I'll talk to you then.”
“Bye.” He hung up the phone and headed for the door.
He arrived at her house about 10 minutes later. She had left the door open
so he could walk in. He went into the living room where she was sitting on
the couch with a magazine and listening to music.
“I didn't know you liked country,” he said listening to what she was playing.
“I wasn't all that into it but it's growing on me. Last time I talked to
Tiffany, she suggested it to me,” Dasia said getting up off the couch.
“Who is it?”
“It's Lonestar. So where were you this afternoon?”
“That's what I came here to talk to you about.”
“Then tell me,” she said, giving him a hug.
He gently pulled away from her. “I will just give me a sec.” His voice
was stricken with melancholy. “Do you want to sit down?”
“Not really. I've been sitting for a while and I really want to know what
is wrong. Are you sick or did something happen?”
This was the hardest thing for him to do. When he broke up with Claire it
hurt but he hadn't looked her in the eyes when he did it. He took a deep
breath before he answered.
“Dasia, I met you three months ago and I have loved the time we've spent
since then. The moment I saw you in the plane I was infatuated…”
“Infatuated?” she asked, starting to realize what was going on. She suddenly
became dizzy and sat down. The song on the radio started playing louder in
her ears.
I still remember the night we met
You said you loved my smile
But your love for me was like a summer breeze
Only lasted for a while
I could hold on tighter I know
But when you love someone you gotta let em' go
“I was infatuated and in total awe of how perfect you were. And you are perfect,
for someone else, but for me all it is is infatuation.”
Dasia interrupted him before he could finish. “You've been seeing Claire.
That's where you were this morning. Just liked you cheated on her with me,
you cheated on me with her?” She held back tears and tried to keep the hurt
out of her voice.
“Dasia, it's not like that. Yes I was with her this morning but I never betrayed
you. Nothing happened but she wants me back and I feel I owe it to her to
try. Neither one of us were faithful so we never had the love we should have,
but we want that or at least a chance.”
So I'm gonna smile
Cause I want to make you happy
So you can't see me cry
I'm going to let you go in style
And even if it kills me
I'm gonna smile
“Okay,” was all Dasia could get out. “I guess I'll see you around.” She headed
for the door.
Kiss me once for the good times baby
Kiss me twice for goodbye
You can't help how you don't feel
And it doesn't matter why
Give me a chance to bow out gracefully
Cause that's how I want you to remember me
“Dasia wait,” he called to her. She turned around and looked him in the eyes
hoping this was all a joke and he would say he loved her then he would kiss
her and everything would be alright. “You don't have to leave. This is your
house, remember?”
I'm gonna smile
Cause I want to make you happy
So you can't see me cry
I want to let you go in style
Even if it kills me
I'm gonna smile
“I need to leave so um lock up on your way, alright?” She tried her best
to give her best smile and walked out the door.
He stood and watched her in disbelief.
I'm gonna smile
So you can find the courage
Laugh so you won't see me hurting
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me
I'm gonna smile
