Love Happens - Chapter Ten

“I have no clue what to wear!” Dasia said to herself. She had been going through her clothes for about an hour and hadn't decided on anything. After searching a little more, she chose the spaghetti strap black that she had first tried on.

She didn't want to look over done since she didn't know the exact place they were going, so she just curled her hair and left it down.

Once she was finished, it was seven-thirty and Justin was just on time and they left to the restaurant.

“These are the most beautiful flowers I've seen. I didn't even know they came in this color. Were they dead?” Dasia asked, referring to the purple daffodils Justin had given her.

“You look beautiful,” Justin said.

“You've already said that.” Dasia laughed.

“I meant it,” he said holding her hand.

“How have things been since you've been back?” she asked.

“Pretty good.” He paused for a moment. “I saw Claire yesterday.”

“Really where? What did she say?” She wondered if he had doubts about choosing her instead of Claire.

“She didn't really say much. She was at the studio when we were recording. She's dating her tennis coach. Actually I hear they have been for about a month.”

“You're kidding!” Dasia replied. “But you only broke up a week ago, so she was cheating on you before you even left? How did you find out?”

“A few acquaintances, but I saw all the signs. I guess when you care about someone so much you ignored it all.”

Dasia tried not to let his comment faze her.

‘Stop trying to over act! Of course he really cared about her, they were five seconds away from getting married before you ruining everything.’

Thoughts of doubt and guilt ran through her mind. ‘He means so much to me but I hope he made the right choice.’

Justin noticed the look on her face and wished he could change the last sentence. “Dasia.”

“Yeah?” she said as casual as possible.

“I met you two weeks ago and fell for you. Everything that Claire and I had is over. You're the one I want to be with. You have my word.”

She leaned over the table and gave him a soft kiss.

(2 Months Later)

“I can't believe you guys did this,” Justin said in shock.

“Of course we did this, it's your birthday!” Kristi said. She had been living with Dasia for one month and helped her set up Justin's party.

They rented a roller skating arena and showed pictures and home movies on the large screen over the rink. Everyone from the studio, family and friends were there.

The party had been going smoothly. They were running out of drinks so Dasia and Kristi left to go to the store. Justin had finish talking to his friends and headed outside for a little air.

He hadn't been standing there long when someone tapped his shoulder. He turned to speak but came to a loss of words when he saw who it was.

“Justin I know I might be the last person you wanted to see, but it's your birthday and I just wanted to give you this and see how you're doing,” she said handing him a small box.

“I'm doing fine and I don't hate you Claire,” Justin said.

“Are you enjoying your party?”

“Yeah, it's really great. Where's Peter?”

“It's Paul and we broke up,” Claire said.

“Why?” Justin asked.

“It just wasn't working and I…” She didn't go on.

“And you what?” he pushed.

“Justin, I miss you. I know you're with Daria.”

“Dasia,” he interrupted.

“Anyway, the point is I want us to be friends again. Maybe go to lunch or something,” she said hopeful.

“It sounds nice, but I don't know.”

“You can think about it and just call me sometime, all right? I've got to get going but I'll talk to you later.” She walked out without a word from him. H

e didn't know if it was a good idea to start hanging out with her. He remembered the box in his hands. He slowly opened it to reveal a ring. It was the engagement ring he had given her. He closed it back up and placed it in his pocket.

(7 Days Later)

Dasia and Justin were lying together on the couch watching tv.

Claire had called Justin and asked him to lunch. He had went and had a good time. They had been doing things together for the last five days. He hadn't mentioned anything to Dasia until today. He didn't tell her about the last couple of days, he only told her about the party and Claire had called and wanted to go to breakfast tomorrow and asked if it was okay with her.

Dasia didn't want to stand in the way of a friendship so she reluctantly agreed.
