Love Is Enough
Part 2
Meghan had just gotten dressed after taking a shower when she heard the front
door open. She guessed that Ashley must have come back early from the party.
Ashley often slept over since Ashley, too, lived by herself.
Meghan sat down on the couch and flipped
on the tv. She was dressed in her pj’s, and pulled a blanket over her body,
considering it was freezing inside the house.
“Ashley, why---”
Meghan’s face froze when she saw Justin
instead of Ashley standing there.
“I guess you were expecting Ashley,
not me,” he said. His coat was drenched from the rain, as was his hair.
Not trusting her voice, Meghan stood
up and looked him over. She had been so upset about what happened back at
the party, and she had felt like a baby yelling at him like that before.
“Um, it’s okay. I just thought that
you would still be at the party.” She paused for a moment. “Don’t you have
a meeting to be at?” He’s probably going after his short little visit with
you, she told herself.
“I’m not going,” he said, shrugging
his shoulders, as if he didn’t care about the damn meeting.
“Why?” she asked.
Justin stepped closer and grabbed her
by the shoulders. “I don’t care about the party or that damn meeting, okay?
I haven’t seen you for two months. For once, I’m going with my heart.”
She almost smiled. But the pain the
last few months had been two much. She fell into his arms, sobbing.
“Don’t cry. You know I hate when you
cry.” He held her in his arms, rubbing his hands under her shirt, rubbing
her back soothingly. He kissed her cheek, then looked down at her.
She hadn’t realized how much she’d
really missed his touch. “I’m sorry I just ran out of there, but I couldn’t
stand it anymore.”
He nodded. “I couldn’t either,” Justin
admitted. “I hate being in a room with you and not being able to touch you.”
“Really?” She had no idea he felt like
that.
“Don’t you ever doubt it.” He
pressed his lips to her forehead and placed a few gentle kisses there.
“And don’t you ever doubt how much I love you.”
Meghan turned away from him, leaning
her head against the wall. “I really thought I could deal with this. But
these last few months without you…”
Then his mouth was on hers, claiming
her in a possessive, passionate kiss. “These past two months have been hell,”
he admitted. “Being without you is like not breathing. I wish you could understand
how much I love you.”
“I just don’t like this secrecy,” Meghan
said. “So what if im only 17? That doesn’t change the way we feel about each
other. I want to be able to walk into a room and be able to kiss you and
touch your hand without worrying what other people will say or think.”
“I want that too, baby.” Justin wrapped
his arms around her waist and placed a gentle kiss on the side of her neck.
“But you know they won’t accept us.”
“Who cares?” Meghan exploded. “Who
cares if they don’t accept us. This has been going on for a year. How long
before they start seeing that we really are a couple? Sooner or later, someone’s
going to notice.”
“Shhh..” Sensing that she was getting
ready to break down, he pulled her into his arms again and rocked her gently.
“Remember what we always say? Love is enough. When we’re alone, that’s the
best time. Because it’s just you and me and I can tell you all the things
I want to say, and I can kiss you and love you the way I want to when I’m
apart from you.”
“I don’t want you to think that I would
make you choose between your music and me. Because I would never do that.”
“I know you wouldn’t. I promise you
once you turn 18, we’ll come out and tell everybody about us,” Justin promised.
Her birthday was six months away still,
but she could wait. As long as she had Justin, nothing else mattered. “So
how long before you have to go away again?” she asked.
“Two weeks,” he said. “It would be
a lot less but Andrea told them that we were going away to Hawaii for a few
days.”
“Thank God for Andrea.” She sighed
against his chest. She noted to remember to thank Andrea later.
“About that whole executive thing…”
“You said what you had to say. It just
kinda disturbed me, I guess. But I know if you could, you would have told
the truth.”
“I hate when people try to tell me
who I should be friends with,” he said, against her lips. “I’ve known you
forever, Meghan. I would never let anyone even try and convince me that you’re
too young. You’ve shown a lot of maturity by putting up with this.”
“I’d do anything for you,” she murmured.
He smiled, and pulled her close for
another earth shattering kiss. The next thing he knew, she was pulling on
his hand and leading him upstairs to the bedroom that they’d made love in
several times.
No one would understand. Sometimes
you had to take a risk to be with the person you loved. Justin and Meghan
had done that from day one, and they loved each other enough to put up with
it till they had to.
