Love Is Enough

Part 3

Meghan heard her alarm clock go off, but she just turned around and shut the clock off then rolled back into Justin’s arms.

After a night of making love, Meghan and Justin had finally fallen asleep three hours ago. Meghan wasn’t really tired, but she knew Justin needed his sleep.

She pulled the sheets back around her body, then laid her head on his chest and tried to fall back asleep.

She opened her eyes when she heard a song playing on the radio.

We dont need the world outside, we've got all we need tonight
Love is Enough, oooh yeah yeah
Let 'em say  what they wanna say, when you're holdin' me this way,
Love is Enough
Everybody searchin' for a piece of mind, all they gotta do is look at you and I

(Chorus)
Baby, just wait and see you can always count on me, When times getting tough
You're the reason that i'm livin' nothing that i wouldn't give
Love is Enough

May never have a lot of money, but it dont really matter honey
Love is Enough
Ain't it funny how 4 little letters, can hold it all together
Love is Enough
Even when we're old and gray, i'll be here and you can still hear me say
(chorus)

Long kisses and a tender touch, 2 hearts make a leap,
What else do we need?
(chorus)

Meghan had a totally different perspective on their situation when she awoke a few hours later. Justin was still sleeping, so Meghan carefully untangled herself from her embrace and went downstairs.

After hearing that song on the radio, Meghan was more than convinced that love was enough for her and Justin. She could deal with the fact that they didn’t have a lot of time alone together. She now knew that she could deal with anything that came in her way. As long as she had Justin and his love, that was enough.

Meghan hadn’t been up for more than five minutes when Justin came down the stairs, dressed with a big grin on his face. Meghan was still in the kitchen having her coffee, so she had no idea he was up.

Wanting to surprise her, Justin walked into the kitchen on his tippie toes so she couldn’t hear him. Once he got right behind her, he put his hands over her eyes and whispered in her ear, “guess who?”

“Oh Chris,” Meghan said in a husky voice. “I told you not to come around until after Justin’s gone.”

Though he knew she was just kidding, he pretended to be hurt. “And I thought I was your one and only.” He pouted after he took his hands away and sat in the chair next to her.

Meghan smiled. She moved her chair right next to his so she could lean over and kiss him. He tasted like mint toothpaste.

“You’re in a better mood this morning,” he said. “I guess our night together proved to be a lot more soothing than I planned.” He grinned. He knew whenever they made love, she always seemed more comfortable the next morning. Like for a while everything would be okay.

“I’m in a much better mood.” She kissed the tip of his nose, which she had never done before. “I heard this song this morning that made me realize something about us.”

        He nuzzled her neck. “Yeah?”

“Yeah,” she said. She groaned quietly as his mouth made a journey along her neck. “It really made me realize that what we have…our love…is enough. I don’t care if we have to pretend forever. I just know I want to be with you forever.”

“I’m glad you feel that way, cause we are going to be together forever,” Justin said, leaning up and capturing her mouth in another kiss. “And I’m glad you feel better about this. I hate this pretending thing, too. I just want to tell the world how much I love you, baby.”

“Good.” She deepened the kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck. Leaning her forehead against his, she sighed in content. “I love you so much.”

Justin smiled. “I love you too.”

She noticed his left hand was in his pants pocket. “What are you doing?” she asked.

        “Nothing,” he said, casually.

“Yeah, right,” Meghan said, knowing him all too well. She tried to get to the truth the best way she knew how…by tickling him.

Laughing hard, Justin’s hand fell out of his pocket. He pulled the silver box with him. He looked at the box, then at her.

No, it couldn’t be, she thought. But he had that ‘we need to have a serious talk’ look on his face.

Justin looked at the box again, then put it up on the table. “Before you say anything…”

She was already wondering what he was going to say.

“I don’t think I tell you often enough how much you mean to me. And I probably don’t tell you how much I love you as much as I should. And it’s not because I don’t want to…It’s just cause our time is so limited together. And I just want to cherish it. I’m so tired of this sneaking around, and I’ve decided that it’s time for us to stop.”

Justin slowly opened up the silver box. Inside, was a small diamond ring. He looked up into her eyes, which were already filled with tears. But this time, they were happy ones.

So he continued now that he really had her attention. He caressed her cheek with his hand. “I love you more than anything in this world. It just took me these months apart for me to realize just how much I love you. If I lost you, I don’t know what I’d do. I’d want to die probably,” he admitted, with a nervous laugh.

Meghan put her hand on top of his. “I love you,” she said, softly.

“That’s good to hear because…” Justin lifted the ring out of the box and carefully placed it on her left hand. “Well, this past year has been the hardest, most amazing year of my life. And I can’t imagine my life without you by my side as my partner, my soul mate. Meghan, will you marry me?”

Meghan immediately went into his arms, wrapping her arms protectively around his waist. “Yes.” She pressed her lips to his and kissed him not once, but three times. When they pulled away, both breathless, Meghan’s blue eyes were lit up.

“We finally got here,” he said softly. “I knew if we believed in us enough, we would get through it. And we did.”

“Because our love is enough.” She hugged him close. It wasn’t long before they were both back upstairs in their bed, making love as if it was their first time.

****

3 hours later…

Meghan and Justin were snuggled up on the couch watching some old movie. When Justin got up to get some more popcorn, Meghan changed the channel to see if there was any news on a kidnapping that had occurred a few nights ago to one of her neighbours.

But there on the news was Justin’s face.

What’s this? she wondered, and turned the volume up.

And then, a picture of Meghan and Justin popped onto the screen. It was a close up picture of the two kissing at the airport a few months ago, when she had seen him off to his flight to Europe.

        Oh God, she thought.

A newsman in a dark black suit was talking to Justin. This must have been taped a while ago, she thought. Little did she know it happened last night.

“Me and Andrea Nembles were never an item,” Justin admitted, on national television.

“And this woman in the picture?” the reporter asked.

Justin glowed at the mention of Meghan. “That’s my girlfriend, Meghan. She’s my best friend.”

The reporter whistled. “Isn’t this the girl who you repeatedly denied rumors of dating?”

“We weren’t dating at the time those rumors were going around,” Justin said. “But for the last year, we’ve been together. And I just want to come out and tell the truth. Cause it’s not fair to either Meghan or me to keep this hidden. We love each other. We don’t care what anybody else thinks. It’s time the world knows and accepts us. Cause nothing or nobody can tear us apart.”

“And that was Justin Timberlake, of NSYNC, finally admitting to all those rumors of a romance with his best friend, Meghan. We have gotten a few phone calls from JIVE executives, who are outraged of the idea of the pair dating. We’ll be back in a minute with more news.”

Meghan switched the channel back to the movie. She couldn’t believe Justin actually did that.

A few minutes later, Justin came back into the living room with more popcorn.

“I can’t believe you did that,” Meghan kissed him. “I’m proud of you.”

“You saw it, didn’t you?” He had been angry when JIVE had called him earlier this morning to yell at him. But he had taken control of the situation and told them to back off. He was in love and there was nothing they could do about it. That had certainly kept them quiet, he thought. They had even promised to try and accept it, and keep their noses out of Justin’s personal life.

Justin wrapped his arms around her waist, and Meghan laughed. “But couldn’t you have picked out a better picture of me?”

After kissing her senseless, Justin smiled at  her. “It doesn’t matter. Love is enough. Finally, we’re where we’re meant to be.”

        “Together,” Meghan said.

She was laughing the entire time Justin carried her back upstairs.

The End
