After the bell rang after the last class of the day, Christina
quickly got to her locker and put her books away and headed for home.
She didn't want to see Justin. She was still so upset of what she had seen
at lunch. She didn't think she could ever face him again and she knew Missy
would put it in her face that she had made out with Justin, and in front
of most of the school.
When Christina got to her front porch and unlocked the door, someone tapped
her on the shoulder. She turned around and saw Missy standing there with
her book bag over her shoulder, acting all innocent.
“What do you want?” Christina demanded. Who cares if she wasn’t talking nice.
She didn’t have to anymore. She wasn’t going to pretend to be civil to Missy.
“Oh, somebody not have a good day?” Missy said trying to act sympathetic
which Christina wasn't buying.
“Oh cut the crap! Listen I saw you and Justin at lunch and as far as I'm
concerned you two deserve each other. I don't know what I ever saw in him
anyways, you can have him.” Christina tried to walk inside, but Missy kept
talking to her.
“How does it feel, huh? Now you know how it feels to find out your partner
cheated on you,” Missy said tears forming in her eyes. Tears Christina knew
were fake. If she was looking for sympathy, she had come to the wrong place.
“ Oh, please, I know you cheated on Rob many times so don't expect
me to feel sorry for you. Rob knew it too, that's why he cheated on you.
Everyday you flirted with at least ten guys and he got sick of it and especially
of you.” Christina managed to step inside of her house, but Missy just followed
her. “Do you mind? I do have friends coming over.”
“Whose coming over, the Smurfs?”
Christina knew Missy tried her best to make her mad and today it was working,
but right now she couldn't care less about Missy or Justin.
Before she could answer, Joey and Lance came through the gate to Christina's
yard still carrying their school stuff. They stopped walking when they saw
what looked like a heated conversation between the two girls.
“We'll just come back another time,” Joey said. He and Lance went back over
to gate and unlocked it.
“Don't be silly guys, come on in. Missy was just leaving, weren't you?” Christina
looked away from Missy long enough to glance in Joey’s direction.
“Yes, I was and when I see Justin I'll tell him you say hi,” Missy said.
She couldn’t believe Christina was hanging out with the people in front of
her. She walked off laughing about the whole situation.
Joey and Lance both saw the angry look on Christina's face as they watched
Missy leave.
Lance followed behind Christina and Joey into her living room. “What happened?”
“She's just being Missy, causing problems wherever she can.” She just wanted
to forget about it. “You guys want to come over this weekend and rent movies
or something?”
“Sure. I have band practice Friday afternoon but I'm free Friday night,”
Lance said.
“Same with me. Me and Lance have band together,” Joey said.
“Lance, I know you sing. Joey what do you do?” Christina asked looking over
at Joey who had found a tray of peanuts on the table and was helping
himself to a few.
“Oh, I sing too. Me and Lance both sing the lowest in the choir,” Joey said
biting a nut. “We suck that bad.” He was only kidding. Actually, he and Lance
were one of the best in the choir. They often had all of the leads. “You
don't mind do you about me eating your peanuts?”
“No, go right ahead. No one eats them anyways.” Christina watched him eat
a few peanuts, then looked up at Lance. “Do your other friends want to come
too?”
“Would it be alright if Lila came too? Cause we usually spend the weekend
together,” Lance said taking his bag off and setting it on the floor.
“The more the merrier. She seems really nice and friendly. You two make such
a cute couple,” Christina said then laughed at Joey when she saw him get
a peanut stuck up his nose and was trying to get it out.
“Joey, you can be such an idiot sometimes.” Lance sighed, realizing what
Joey had done. “Excuse him, he's very odd.”
“Hey!” Joey exclaimed as he finally managed to get the peanut out.
“Actually Joey, I find that kind of unique. And it's kinda cute,” Christina
said trying to hold in her laughter.
Joey looked up, surprised. “Really?” he said, holding out the bowl. “You
want one?”
“Why not?” Christina grabbed a few and popped them in her mouth.
That afternoon, Lance and Joey spent a few hours at her house talking and
playing games. But on their way out the gate, Lance bumped into a blonde
with curls.
