JC, Joey, Chris and Christina were in Lance's house trying
to cheer him up. None of them had seen him so depressed. Then again, he always
had Lila since they knew him.
“I’m sorry, man. I thought she was different too,” JC said sitting beside
Lance who was on the couch moping with his face in his hands.
Lance didn't want to listen, he knew his friends were trying to help but
it wasn't working. He was convinced that nothing would help.
Lance got up. “I just want to be left alone.” He wiped his eyes then went
to his room and slammed the door.
Christina watched the door slam, and she suddenly felt responsible. Like
someone she could have prevented this. “I can't believe Justin would do this.”
“Oh come on, Christina. You, Justin and Lila probably cooked this all together,”
Chris said coldly.
“CHRIS SHUT UP!” Joey put his arm around Christina. “He didn't mean it. We're
all a little on edge today.”
“Joey, don't tell me to shut up!” Chris was now mad. He was trying to defend
him, and all he was getting was harsh words for his support. “She treated
you like crap, and all.…”
“She did not! It was all a misunderstanding,” Joey said letting Christina
cry as he held her close.
“What?” Chris said.
“I DIDN'T HANG AROUND HIM BECAUSE OF JUSTIN! I HUNG AROUND HIM BECAUSE HE'S
SWEET,CARING, KIND, AND I LOVE HIM!” Christina yelled, not realizing it.
“I’m sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. I just don't want Joey hurt,” Chris
said. He knew now that she was telling the truth. She did just say she loved
Joey, didn't she? If that wasn't a true confession, he didn't know what was.
“I understand, Chris. And I'm sorry, too,” she apologized giving Chris a
hug.
Joey looked on with a smile. “See, Chris,” he said. “It pays to be nice to
people.” He glanced at Chris. “Even if you’re a nut.” Christina laughed through
her tears and smiled at Joey. He could always make her laugh. “See, I can
still make you laugh,” he said.
“So you do.” She hugged him again thankful he seemed to forgive her. “I love
you Joey,” she said.
Joey smiled bigger then he ever had. He had never really heard her say it
to his face. He leaned in and kissed her on the lips for the first time.
“I love you, too,” he said.
All the guys made “aww” noises. Joey and Christina didn't look up they continued
to kiss as if no one else was in the room.
Lila watched through Lance's window and saw him crying. She knocked on the
window and when Lance looked up and saw her, he gave her an angry look but
opened the window anyway
Lance sat back on the bed and watched her pace his room. “What do you want?”
he demanded.
“Lance…” She reached up and touched his face with her hand, but he backed
away too quickly.
“I don't want to talk you, you...you cheater! I hate you, Lila!”
The words hurt her but she was being blackmailed she didn't have a choice.
She hated Justin. She knew hate was a strong word, but she thought hate wasn’t
a strong enough word to describe her feelings towards Justin.
“I love you,” Lila said. She kissed his hand then left back out the window.
Lance laid down on his bed staring at a picture of him and Lila at last years
dance, one this year they wouldn't be attending together.
“So how'd it go, baby?”
Lila stuck her tongue out at Justin who was waiting for her where they had
all been before just outside the school.
“Shut up, Justin! I'm not going to the dance with you. I refuse to, that
would hurt Lance too much,” she said.
“I’m sorry, but we’re going together.” He didn’t look one bit sorry.
“Can’t you go with Missy?”
“No. I'm not going with that tramp. I hate her. She cost my relationship
with Christina. You're going with me,” he told her straight up.
It’s you that cost your relationship with Christina. Now you’re trying
to destroy my relationship with Lance because of a personal vendetta against
Joey. He didn’t even do anything to you!
He kissed her passionately then walked off and turned back a few times blowing
kisses to her. She felt dirty inside but she would just have to put up with
Justin till the end of the dance.....
Then she would get Lance back. She had to.
