Justin had planned
on sleeping in the next morning, but instead he awoke hearing JC screamming
into his ear. “Leave, I wanna sleep,” Justin whined, pulling the pillow over
his head.
JC just pulled the pillow away from
Justin’s face till Justin finally sat up what seemed like half an hour later.
“Come on we're supposed to meet them
in ten minutes,” JC said.
“Yeah, yeah, I'm up,” Justin complained
as he got up from the bed heading to the closet. He turned around knowing
JC still in the room and watching him. “I'd like to change alone if you don't
mind.”
“Just don’t try to escape by jumping
out the window.” JC left the room, closing the door behind him.
Justin came out to the living room
ten minutes later dressed. “What took you so long?” JC asked, irritated.
He hated being late, and they were already supposed to be at the beach.
“I was changing.” Justin put on his
shoes, then grabbed his coat just in case the weather changed while they
were there. “Stop freaking out.”
“I’m not freaking out,” JC mumbled.
During the whole way to the beach,
Justin noticed JC was looking really nervous, but he just figured he just
wanted to see Anna, so he just let it go.
----At The Beach----
“So the date didn't go well?” Anna
asked again.
Elizabeth hadn’t been in the best mood
this morning, so Anna had automatically assumed it had something to do with
last night. Honestly, Elizabeth didn’t know why she was in such a bad mood.
But her mood was getting worse by the second, as she was given the third
degree from Anna since the moment she’d walked into the living room this
morning.
Elizabeth glared at her once again.
“He's back home now, just drop it okay?” She started to play with the sand
again with her hands, making little circles.
Anna once again took her hands away.
“I'm sorry, I just want you to find someone that you like. I guess I wanted
Michael to be the one. You can never admit that you need anybody. Sometimes
I just wonder what is really going on.”
Elizabeth got up and stared at Anna.
“Don't you try and be all sympathetic! I don't need a boyfriend, unlike you!”
She started to walk in the other directon, not looking back.
Anna wanted to run after her, but decided
that was not a good idea right now. “Elizabeth!” Anna called, hoping to get
her attention. But no such luck. Elizabeth just kept walking in the other
direction.
“What happened?”
Anna turned around as tears was forming
in her eyes, and saw JC and Justin. “I don't know what I did. I was just
trying to help. She’s become so sensitive lately,” she said.
“You know maybe you should try and
understand how she feels,” Justin began, “you know don't try and tell her
how she should live her life.”
“How would you know what she's feeling?”
Anna snapped.
“Maybe because I actually listen to
her. You spend all your time to find her a guy when she doesn't even want
a boyfriend!” Justin snapped back.
“Stay out of this!” she yelled.
“She's right you know, this is none
of our business,” JC cut in.
“JC how can you say that? If you guys
took one real look at her, you'd see that she is hurting still from her last
relationship,” Justin said annoyed. “You should be supporting her, not hurting
her.”
“Justin stop taking this so seriously.…”
JC said. “Elizabeth will just let this blow over, then she’ll be fine.”
“Let's just get this day over with,”
Justin groaned, sitting on the sand and putting his face in his hands. “Actually
you know what,” he said getting up, “I think I'm going to go see if she's
alright.”
Anna nodded. “Please tell her I’m sorry
for what I said. I just want to help.”
“I'll try.” Justin started to walk
in the direction he’d seen Elizabeth walk just as he got there. He could
see her at the end of the beach, so he jogged the rest of the way.
“Do you think he can get through to
her?” Anna asked, a little scared. “I didn't mean to say what I said, I just
want her to be happy. She deserves it after all the shit she’s been through.”
“Maybe it's a good thing what you did.
I mean Justin seems really taken to what happened, he seems to really care
about her feelings,” JC said, wrapping his arms around her. “Try not to worry
about it so much. And Anna, from now on I think we should just stay out of
our friends personal affairs.”
Anna agreed. She didn‘t want her and
Elizabeth getting in fights like this. After years of friendship, they hardly
ever fought. But when they did fight, it didn‘t take long before they made
up.
“I hope you're right JC because she's
my best friend, and I can tell they're perfect for each other. I‘ll leave
it alone. If it‘s meant to happen, it‘ll happen.”
“Elizabeth?”
Elizabeth was sitting down on the sand,
once again drawing circles. She slowly turned around and saw Justin. “What
are you doing all the way out here?” she asked.
Justin stepped a little closer to Elizabeth.
“Anna's really sorry for what she said.” He stopped when he saw sadness in
her eyes. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No sorry I was just thinking.” She
stopped with the sand and placed her hands in her lap.
He caught the thinking expression on
her face. “What about?” he asked.
“Just my life I guess.” Elizabeth sighed,
moving her feet around in the sand. “The things that have happened.”
He watched her feet movements. “Must
be something really important then if you're doing that.”
“Maybe,” she replied still not looking
up at him.
Justin started to turn away. “I'll
just leave you alone to your thoughts.” He stopped and turned around when
he heard Elizabeth's voice.
“I'm sorry I just get so sick of her
and other people implying that I'm wasting my life.”
Justin walked back over to her. “I'm
sorry. Don't listen to them, just do what you want to do.”
“I know and I always have. You can
go back, I'll be fine,” Elizabeth said now looking up at him.
“Are you sure?”
She nodded. “Yeah, I’ll be there in
a few minutes. I just want a few minutes by myself.”
He nodded, then walked back to where
JC and Anna were setting up the picnic.
Elizabeth stayed in the same spot for
a few minutes after he left, then headed back, feeling a lot better.
When Elizabeth got back, Anna went
up to her and hugged her. “Look, I'm sorry for what I said,” Anna said.
“It's okay Anna,” Elizabeth said. “Please
just don't do it anymore, I'm going to do what I want to do, and I'll date
when I want to.”
“Come on let's eat, I brought your
favorite,” Anna said leading her over to the picnic table.
Elizabeth looked around at the food
on the table. “Mmm roast beef sandwiches.” She reached over and picked one
up and started to eat it. As she was eating, Justin came and sat beside her,
and JC and Anna sat on the other side of the table, making out. Elizabeth
raised her eyebrow then turned to Justin, who had a sandwich on his plate
but wasen't eating it because of the display in front of them. “Do they do
that a lot?” she asked
She put her sandwich down, trying not
to watch what was going on, and looking over at Justin instead, who was laughing.
“Oh yeah.” He turned to JC and Anna.
“Would you two stop that so the other two of us can eat?”
Anna and JC broke apart, then they
started laughing. “Oops sorry,” Anna apologized taking a bite of her sandwich.
“Thank you now the rest of the world
can eat,” Elizabeth said. She picked up her sandwich again.
Justin watched her eat. It was as if
she hadn’t eaten in weeks. She was already on her second sandwich. “Hungry?”
Elizabeth stopped eating and looked
at him. “I haven't eaten in a while. I didn't have much spare time with medical
school.”
“Yeah now Elizabeth is a real doctor,”
Anna said as she stopped eating.
“Wow really? That's amazing,” Justin
said.
“I haven't always wanted to be in medicine.
When I was little,” she laughed, “I wanted to be a scientist, but well lets
just say I blew up a few things up in science class. Then I got into medicine.
My mom was a doctor.”
“A very wise profession,” JC said.
Elizabeth smiled. “I really enjoy it.”
“Is it hard?” Justin asked curiously.
Elizabeth took a sip of her drink.
“Kind of. But everything in life is hard, isn't it?”
----Later That Night-----
Anna hugged Justin. “I'm glad you came.”
“I had fun,” he admitted. “You sure
know how to make me have a good time.” He looked over at Elizabeth and smiled.
“Yeah I did too,” Elizabeth said looking
at him. She adored his smile, it just made her want to smile, too.
“Well let's go Lizzy, it's getting
late,” Anna said pulling her arm.
She was still in her daze looking at
Justin. “Yeah I'm coming.” She followed Anna. When she got in the car, she
was still looking at him, but stopped when her and Anna were out of sight
of the guys, who still hadn’t left yet.
“We should go too,” JC said heading
for the truck. He turned around and saw Justin wasen't following him. “Hello?”
Justin was still staring out in space.
He looked at JC a few moments later. “We should go too you know, it's getting
late,” he said.
JC raised an eyebrow at his friend.
“I just said that. What's wrong with you?”
“Nothing. I just didn't hear you.”
“Yeah right,” JC said getting into
the truck.
Justin followed and got into the passengers
seat. On the ride back to his house, all Justin could think about was how
much he and Elizabeth had in common, and how much he really adored her. And
she wasen't like all the others, she never came on to him. And he really
liked that.
