Whatever the cause, this head had fallen from
a statue and was gradually accepted into the
root system of a tree, which was already
enveloping the wall of a fallen building.
The plundered ruins just ask you to
take out your camera.  Whether by
time or by enemies, destroyed
buddhas like this one dotted the sites.
"Enchanting" would be the word to
describe Ayuthaya.  At 650 years
old, the red brick structures are
leaning, and the statues are
crumbling.  Just walking around the
dilapidated buildings you can feel the
grandeur that the city once held,
before the Burmese invaded,
destroying statues of their own faith.
Ayuthaya, the Ruins of the Plundered Ancient Capital of Thailand
Along the train line north to Ayuthaya,
the ancient capital of Thailand, hawkers,
vagabonds and stray dogs are everywhere.
The dogs are in fact a huge problem in
Thailand.... they're everywhere!  Not just
in Bangkok, but everywhere we visited.
Heres a hawker we saw along the line.
