Livingston was the first trip for me to try out my 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 tow vehicle. My Dodge has the 5.9 L gasoline V-8. It pulled the XJ just fine, even on steep grades.
I drove the 450 miles from Chicago to Livingston with Marc and Bill. Marc owns an XJ and Bill came along for the fun and festivities. We left Chicago after work and drove through the night stopping for a few hours sleep at a rest stop. |

After about 1-1/2 hours after we started wheelin', I experienced a mechanical failure. I believe the bolts that secure the front driveshaft to the front transfer case output yoke were loose. The result was a broken transfer case yoke and a broken driveshaft yoke. With the help of friends who brought parts from Louisville, I was able to get the driveshaft fixed. However, I could not find a transfer case yoke so I was finished driving the XJ for the weekend.
When I lost the front driveshaft I happened to be on a very steep incline. To add insult to injury, I slid backwards and a dead tree limb broke my rear window in the hatch. |

| Here are some pictures taken at a rest stop on the way back to Chicago. It sure was nice to have Bill and Marc along for the ride. It made the trip go a lot faster. |
