Denton County Medical Society Alliance
October 20, 2005 Meeting Minutes
Welcome (9:55)
Holly Homer welcomed
the 17 people who attended. Everyone introduced themselves and how
long they have lived in Denton County. Prizes were given for the
shortest time—1 year (Tina Suominen) and longest—undisclosed
(Elizabeth Holland). Connie Valenti hosted the meeting in her home at
30 Royal Oaks Circle, Denton.
Announcements/Reports
Membership—Marnie Grodzin, "Welcome
Wagon" bags—Marnie brought a sample of the new Welcome Wagon
bags that she and her committee have created. It consists of a
reusable tote, basic area information, a folder with Alliance
information and Alliance member suggestions and a tablet with DCMSA
logo and website information. Those in attendance were made very
positive comments about the product. An appeal was made to get any
information about new physician families moving to town to Marnie ASAP
so the project could be a success.
Adrienne Norris, Note writing get together on Wed., October 26,
1-3 pm at her house—38 Rolling Hills
Circle, Denton 940-382-7209—Adrienne spoke about the success of the
Valentine project last year and encouraged people to sign up for next
week’s note writing to members and prospective members.
November Open House—Jackie Jackson, vendor coordination—Jackie
introduced the 18 vendors currently lined up for the November Open
House. Several members made suggestions or comments regarding possible
vendors. Monica Shovlin and Gail Ward brought samples of vendor
products to show after the meeting.
Holly Homer, volunteer coordination and postcard invitations—Holly
passed around a sign-up sheet for 2 hour shifts to work the event (13
two hour shifts were signed up for) and suggested people take the
postcard invitations to friends of members without email addresses (or
if that information is unknown).
Janet Shelton, evite invitations—Janet reported that over 100
evite Email addresses have already been
entered and encouraged people to send her more. She is planning on
sending them out early November.
Chari-Tea—Connie Valenti, getting started on planning for
Feb. 2, 2006 event—Connie sent around a sign-up sheet for hosting or
helping with tables at the February event. 9 people signed up. She
encouraged people to begin thinking about what table decorations to
bring and friends to invite.
November meetings—Holly Homer, Nov. 1 Come if you can Dinner
& A Movie at Movie Tavern, evening time
TBA—will find "chick flick" for more information, watch
email or contact Holly—817-491-9813—Holly reported that
information about this event would be emailed the week before and that
anyone interested contact her by phone or email as a casual RSVP.
Connie Valenti, next DCMSA meeting on November 17 to be held at Super Suppers @ Bartonville Town Center.
Pre-register for making food—www.supersuppersbartonville.com or
call 940-455-7471—Connie explained how Super Suppers works and the
prices and menus (both available on website). Pre-registration is
required if someone plans on making food, but he/she may pay for the
food either online or the day of the event onsite. Members may attend
the meeting without making food. We will meet after the Super Suppers
event at Enrique’s for lunch.
Guest Speaker
Introduction— Jackie Jackson—Jackie
introduced our speaker, Tim King, explaining he is a physician spouse,
a father, a Physician Assistant, experienced leader and integral part
of the success of The People’s Clinic.
Important Information about our community— Tim
King—Tim spoke of his past experience attending (and joining) a
female-dominated Alliance along with his history of being a male
physician spouse. He spoke about how he became involved in The People’s
Clinic and how the clinic evolved here in Denton County. He talked
about the clinic and how it is currently serving a large population of
uninsured Denton County residents. He encouraged members to visit the
clinic and become involved in this very worthy project.
Celebrate! Accomplishments
Bee Wise Certificates presented—Holly Homer presented Jackie
Jackson, Sandy Kristoferson and Sharon Conyers with certificates of
appreciation for help with the immunization project that Mia Price had
created.
A Toast to Mia Price, President-Elect for TMAA—members toasted and
cheered for Mia and celebrated her accomplishment.
Charitable Funds Disbursement
Checks written for funds raised at 2005 Chari-Tea—Sandy Kristoferson presented a report from the Charitable
Funds disbursement committee which consisted of: Sandy Kristoferson,
Mia Price, Janet Shelton and Holly Homer. The committee recommended
the following actions: 1)Donate funds to Children’s Advocacy Center
for $1500, Denton Christian Pre-School for $401.95, Cross Timbers Girl
Scouts for $500, Day Stay for Adults for $1425, Friends of the Family
for $500 and Denton City/County Day Nursery for $1500 (which is a
partial funding of their $2500 request). 2)Give first priority in the
spring to the unfunded requests of Grad Night and a foster parents
request (received after the October 1, 2005 deadline). Sandy made a
motion to accept the committee’s recommendations and Perrijo Midgett
seconded the motion. The attending members unanimously accepted the
motion. Janet Shelton wrote checks from the DCMSA account to the
charities in the amounts recommended and the checks were given to
member representatives of each charity.

Price.
Sandy Kristoferson made a final request to make sure DCMSA has all
email addresses of members and prospective members due to a change to
an email-only newsletter as of November 2005. Email addresses should
be sent to Sylvia or Mia. Any announcements or newsletter items should
be sent to Sandy.
The meeting was concluded at 11:10 and members were encouraged to stay
and get acquainted
