The annual DC Dyke March is gearing up for this years rally and celebration of the queer community of Washington, DC. Held in and around Dupont Circle, the march attracts approximately 500 people from diverse backgrounds. The march strives to celebrate the unique identity of dykes within the larger queer community by radically and unapologetically raising visibility, educating the public, allowing dyke voices to be heard, and keeping our herstory alive and honoring our allies. Our theme this year, "Thinking Outside the Boxes, strives to raise awareness of the extent to which our community has grown to include varied identities. The guest speaker for this years march is Leslie Feinberg, activist and award-winning author of such books as Stone Butch Blues and Trans Liberation. The DC Dyke March needs money to pay for our guest speaker, as well as marshal training, sound equipment, advertising costs, t-shirts, posterboard, and all the other odds and ends that go into making the march a triumph.
Being a DIY, non-profit making organization, our budget is very small and in order to produce a successful march, contributions from the community are a greatly appreciated necessity. Please support the District of Columbias uniquely fabulous queer community by donating through PayPal below.
Special thanks to Lea Messner for your extreme generosity! You rock!
