Give her practice in dealing with uncomfortable situations.
|
Nobody likes uncomfortable situations and it is natural to want to
shield our children from them. But, wouldn't it be better if our children
had the skills to get through uncomfortable situations with a minimum
amount of stress. The only way that will happen is if they experience
these situations and learn just how survivable they are! They can
develop the skills to deal with these times.

Teach her to use a new tool.
|
Imagine the self confidence a girl can develop when she knows how to
use tools! The independence this can foster is immeasurable. Take it
one step further and get her help with household repairs!

|
Encourage her to ask for what she wants.
|
Sounds easy enough? Unfortunately, as girls get older it gets harder
and harder for them to ask for what they really want. Most adult
women have extreme difficulty asking for the things that are important
to us. Maybe we should learn to teach by example!

Form a Father/Daughter activity group
|
We cannot underestimate the impact a father or other prominent male
figure has in a daughter's life and the choices she makes. Check out the
following web-site for great information: www.dadsanddaughters.org

Help her start her own business.
|
Girls at any age would benefit from putting together their own age
appropriate business. They can begin developing the belief and
confidence needed for self sufficiency. This would be a great
opportunity to introduce the "unreal" world of advertising.
