I'm Unique
|
Let your daughter list what is unique about her. She may need your
help and encouragement. Sometimes it's hard to see and express
positive things about yourself!

I'm in Charge
|
Over and over again we hear that eating disorders are linked to issues
of control. Many girls feel like they don't have much control over their
lives, especially as they move out of grade school. Help your daughter
recognize what she has control over. Have her draw a circle. In the
circle, have her draw a picture of herself or something that represents
herself. Have her draw spokes coming out from the circle. At the end
of each spoke she can write, paste a picture of or draw something that
she has control over. They might include how she wears her hair, what
gifts she buys a friend, what clothes she buys, what kind of music and
t.v. shows she likes....... She might be surprised at all the things she
has control over.

These Are My Strengths
|
As a girl moves into adolescence it becomes all too easy for her to
focus on perceived faults rather than on her strengths. It's our job to
help her recognize those strengths and feel good about who she is.
Help her make a list of "what's right about her". Maybe she has a
wonderful laugh, a great sense of humoror is great at math. You might
want to do it right along with her!
