CHAPTER 2
Keesha's supervisor approved her time off and told her to have a wonderful time. She wanted to call A.J. with the good news, but they had agreed he would call her after he had spoken to Edward. When he did call, he had disappointing news.
''I'm sorry, sweetheart, but I'm not going to be able to go this weekend. All hell broke loose with the docks project when I got back. With Ned out of the country, I need to be here to keep Grandfather and Jason from killing each other. Forgive me?''
''Of course,'' Keesha said, trying to hide her disappointment. She knew she shouldn't have gotten her hopes up. ''Will you try for next weekend?''
''If things go well, I will. If not, we may have to put our weekend getaway on hold.''
''I understand.''
''I'm sorry,'' A.J. said. ''I hate disappointing you.''
''Will I see you tonight?''
''Yes, but I'll probably be late. Don't hold dinner for me.''
''Okay,'' Keesha said and sighed. ''Don't stay too late.''
''I'll try not to.'' He paused. ''I love you.''
''Love you, too.''
Keesha slowly replaced the receiver and looked, once more, at their picture.
They were so happy then, and even though she knew the honeymoon wouldn't last
forever, she hadn't expected it to go downhill this fast. Especially when she
was carrying their child. She sent her supervisor an E-mail advising she didn't
need the time off after all.
