WTOP-TV/WDVM-TV Eyewitness
News 1972-1982
If you trace the history of the Eyewitness News format, you would know that when they
first start out on a station, they use a film score form a movie. Back the WTOP-TV,
a Washington Post Station, had the same idea, only they used the broadway theme from
Superman. Also during this period was a station swap between The Washington Post (WTOP-TV
owner) and The Detroit News (WDIV Owner). WTOP-TV becmae WDVM-TV, The "D"
for the Ditrict, "V" for Virginia and "M" for Maryland.

Eyewitness News 1982-1986
Television 9's first non-theme movie or broadway based News Theme for Eyewitness
News, by VTS productions. This theme was also used on KPIX San Francisco, WOR in
Seacacus/New York, KYW Philadelphia, WCVB Boston and WFTV Orlando. The
music is composed by now defunct-VTS Productions and it's called "And
You."

Eyewitness News 1986-1991
The one of the two best Eyewitness News Theme with the best Eyewitness News Opening
that Channel 9 ever had to this day. The News Opening produced by Pacific Data
Images is all computer animated. Also in 1986, Gannett (USA Today Owner) bought
Channel 9 and changed the calls to WUSA. The music is composed by
Collier Concepts.
WUSA
Eyewitness News 1991-1996
Channel 9 started using this theme before they moved in to the New Broadcast House in
Wisconsin Avenue and Upton Street after being in the original Broadcast House from
1954-1992 on 40th and Brandywine Streets. This is a customized package
for WUSA called "USA News" by 615 Music Company.

Channel 9 Eyewitness News 1996-1997
This theme was only used for a little over a year. It was used after Channel 9
changed this logo after 15 years of use. They also changed thier image and thier
news set.
WUSA
Channel 9 Eyewitness News 1997-1999
They changed to a blood and guts format using the Frank Gari CBS Enforcer Package the
second greatest Channel 9 Eyewitness News theme ever. They cooled off of blood and
guts toward the end of 1998. The CBS enforecer theme is based on the CBS O&O Local
News Theme.

9 Eyewitness News 1999-Present
They used a revised edition of the CBS Enforcer theme. This was first used on
the debut of CBS' The Early Show in November 1999. |
