Past WTOP-TV/WDVM-TV/WUSA News Themes

WTOP-TV/WDVM-TV Eyewitness News 1972-1982
If you trace the history of the Eyewitness News format, you would know that when they first start out on a station, they use a film score form a movie.  Back the WTOP-TV, a Washington Post Station, had the same idea, only they used the broadway theme from Superman. Also during this period was a station swap between The Washington Post (WTOP-TV owner) and The Detroit News (WDIV Owner).  WTOP-TV becmae WDVM-TV, The "D" for the Ditrict, "V" for Virginia and "M" for Maryland.

WDVM-TV Eyewitness News 1982-1986
Television 9's first non-theme movie or broadway based News Theme for Eyewitness News, by VTS productions.  This theme was also used on KPIX San Francisco, WOR in Seacacus/New York, KYW Philadelphia, WCVB Boston and WFTV Orlando.  The music is composed by now defunct-VTS Productions and it's called "And You."

WUSA Eyewitness News 1986-1991
The one of the two best Eyewitness News Theme with the best Eyewitness News Opening that Channel 9 ever had to this day.  The News Opening produced by Pacific Data Images is all computer animated.  Also in 1986, Gannett (USA Today Owner) bought Channel 9 and changed the calls to WUSA.  The music is composed by Collier Concepts.

WUSA Eyewitness News 1991-1996
Channel 9 started using this theme before they moved in to the New Broadcast House in Wisconsin Avenue and Upton Street after being in the original Broadcast House from 1954-1992 on 40th and Brandywine Streets.  This is a customized package for WUSA called "USA News" by 615 Music Company.

WUSA Channel 9 Eyewitness News 1996-1997
This theme was only used for a little over a year.  It was used after Channel 9 changed this logo after 15 years of use.  They also changed thier image and thier news set.

WUSA Channel 9 Eyewitness News 1997-1999
They changed to a blood and guts format using the Frank Gari CBS Enforcer Package the second greatest Channel 9 Eyewitness News theme ever.  They cooled off of blood and guts toward the end of 1998. The CBS enforecer theme is based on the CBS O&O Local News Theme.

WUSA 9 Eyewitness News 1999-Present
They used a revised edition of the CBS Enforcer theme.  This was first used on the debut of CBS' The Early Show in November 1999.
