The Scouting
Principles (as approved by the
World Organization of the Scout Movement [WOSM])
The purpose of the Scouting movement is to contribute to the development
of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social,
and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as
members of their local, national and international communities.
Principles are fundamental laws and beliefs which must be observed when
achieving the purpose. A code of conduct which characterizes all members
of the movement. Scouting is based upon three broad principles which
represent its fundamental laws and beliefs. They are referred to as:

Duty to God
Adherence to spiritual principles, loyalty to the religion that express
them and acceptance of the duties resulting there from.

Duty to Others
Participation in the development of society, with recognition and respect
for the dignity of one�s fellowman and for the integrity of the natural
world. Loyalty to one�s country in harmony with the promotion of local,
national and international peace, understanding and cooperation.

Duty to Self
Responsibility for the development of oneself. Loyalty to ones principles.
The Scout Ideals
These ideals are the basic foundations of all scouting activity. Scouts
always base all their thoughts words and actions on these ideals. These
Are the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan, Handshake, Badge, Salute, and
Scout Sign.
