"Sidus Adsit Amicum"

Description of the Coat of Arms

The sources for this are taken primarily from J.H. Estill's 1905 book and Alma Lakey Wilson's 1944 book. The original French sources are found in the Bibliotheque Nationale Clairambault collection reg, 45, No 47. Other sources include many things that have been picked up over the last few years. Not being a professional genealogist, I believe this information is reliable.

The arms were granted by the King of France to the family in 1487 (from Wilson), to Jean Andre d'Estelle.

Arms - Azure (blue) with three mullets, or placed one above two, the top of the shield by having a lion argent passant. Supports, two lions with Marquis crowns (no longer used, were personal to the first Lord d'Estelle, the Marquisate d' Estelle) The crest, a issuant holding a sword in his left paw.

The version of the Arms listed on this page is one that has been put together from sources. The most important source found for authentication is Reitsapp's Arms Generals, which is an important authority for Medieval coats of arms. There are four that have been taken whole or in part. All of the best characteristics were pasted together to make the one that you see.
