| The Loudenback Family History | ||||||||||||
| The history of the Loudenback family begins in Germany in the 1600's. That is where I can trace my immediate family line. The area that this family came from is Staudernheim. At one time, this was part of the area known as Hesse. It is located in the south west part of Germany, about 65 miles from Frankfort - Am - Main, on the Nahe River. In looking at a modern day map of Germany, you will have a difficulult time finding the town of Staudernheim, in the province of Hesse. It is now located in the Rhineland - Pfalz area of Germany. You will see various spellings of the surname Loudenback.. In the old country, you will find the spelling as being Lautenbach. Due to the differences in the languages , certain sounds and letter combinations are not common in German and in English. As the family moved to America, people who registered immigrants might have had trouble with spelling of the names as they were given to them. So they wrote what it sounded like, in the register. In fact as the people in the American colonies began to write names of the immigrants, sometimes the writing was a problem. Many times, letters were written one way, and looked very much like other letters, therefore the change in the spelling. For example, in Fayette County Indiana, on a land transaction for Phillip Loudenback, my fourth Great Grandfather, the sixth letter of the name was hard to tell if it was Louderback or Loudenback. The progression of the Loudenback family once again begins in Straudernheim, Hesse, Germany. Then one of the family members, Johann David Lautenbach came to America, and eventually settled in Virginia. David had a son, that was Matthias, who had many children. Some of them moved west and settled in Indiana and Ohio. Phillip was one of the sons that settled in Fayette.County Indiana. Phillip was my fourth Great Grandfather. More specific history of the Loudenback families will be discussed. I will get informaiton on the following families and add them to the Loudenback Pages. From Johann Nakel, to Johann David, to Matthias, to Phillip. This is a continuous work in progress. Please check back frequently, and see the changes that are made. Please, when I get my guestbook up and running, feel free to sign in. Until then, please drop me an e-mail to: [email protected]. And now the rest of the story. .... |
