About the author: Brian Walton served in the Young Men organization of three wards for a total of approximately five years in Tucson, Arizona, while he was working on his PhD. In the first ward, he served as first counselor and then president of the YM. After moving to a neighboring ward, he was immediately called to serve as Varsity Scout coach and assistant teachers quorum adviser. A year later, he was called as YM president. A few years later, ward boundaries were realigned and he was called again as the YM president. Just prior to graduation, he was released. It was during his second stint as YM president that the Duty to God program was established. Now living in Harrisonburg, Virginia, he is once again serving as a YM president and Venturing advisor.
