1
¶Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into
Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob. 2 Reuben, Simeon,
Levi, and Judah, 3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4 Dan, and Naphtali,
Gad, and Asher. 5 And all the souls that came out of the loins of
Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. 6 And
Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. 7 And
the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly,
and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled
with them.
8 ¶Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children
of Israel are more and mightier than we: 10 Come on, let us deal
wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that,
when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies,
and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. 11 Therefore
they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens.
And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and
grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. 13
And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter,
and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their
service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
15 ¶And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which
the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew
women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall
kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 17 But the
midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded
them, but saved the men children alive. 18 And the king of Egypt
called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this
thing, and have saved the men children alive? 19 And the midwives
said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian
women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come
in unto them. 20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and
the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 21 And it came to
pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is
born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save
alive.

1 ¶And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a
daughter of Levi. 2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and
when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark
of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the
child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
5 ¶And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the
river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when
she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the
babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one
of the Hebrews' children. 7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter,
Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she
may nurse the child for thee? 8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her,
Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother. 9 And Pharaoh's
daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me,
and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and
nursed it. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's
daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses:
and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
11 ¶And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that
he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and
he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12
And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there
was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. 13 And
when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews
strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore
smitest thou thy fellow? 14 And he said, Who made thee a prince
and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst
the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But
Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian:
and he sat down by a well.
16 ¶Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came
and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.
17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up
and helped them, and watered their flock. 18 And when they came
to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon
to day? 19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand
of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered
the flock. 20 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why
is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses
Zipporah his daughter. 22 And she bare him a son, and he called
his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange
land.
23 ¶And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt
died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage,
and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage. 24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his
covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God looked
upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

1 ¶ The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are
they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth
good. 2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to
see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. 3
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy;
there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4 Have the workers of
iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they
have not called upon God. 5 There were they in great fear, where
no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth
against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised
them. 6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When
God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice,
and Israel shall be glad.

1 ¶ Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength. 2
Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. 3 For
strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my
soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.
4 ¶Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold
my soul. 5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off
in thy truth. 6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise
thy name, O LORD; for it is good. 7 For he hath delivered me out
of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

1 ¶ Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.
2 Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make
a noise; 3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression
of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they
hate me. 4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of
death are fallen upon me. 5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon
me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. 6 And I said, Oh that I had
wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. 7
Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah.
8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.
9 ¶Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence
and strife in the city. 10 Day and night they go about it upon the
walls thereof: mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.
11 Wickedness is in the midst thereof: deceit and guile depart not
from her streets. 12 For it was not an enemy that reproached me;
then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that
did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from
him: 13 But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
14 We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of
God in company. 15 Let death seize upon them, and let them go down
quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among
them.
16 ¶As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.
17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud:
and he shall hear my voice. 18 He hath delivered my soul in peace
from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
19 God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old.
Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
20 He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with
him: he hath broken his covenant. 21 The words of his mouth were
smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer
than oil, yet were they drawn swords. 22 Cast thy burden upon the
LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous
to be moved. 23 But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the
pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out
half their days; but I will trust in thee.

1 ¶Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,)
how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her
husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is
loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband
liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress:
but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she
is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. 4 Wherefore,
my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ;
that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised
from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For
when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the
law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 6
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we
were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in
the oldness of the letter.
7 ¶What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had
not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except
the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 8 But sin, taking occasion
by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For
without the law sin was dead. 9 For I was alive without the law
once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 10
And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto
death. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived
me, and by it slew me. 12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment
holy, and just, and good. 13 Was then that which is good made death
unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working
death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might
become exceeding sinful.
14 ¶For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold
under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would,
that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that
which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now
then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing:
for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is
good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the
evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not,
it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find
then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But
I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind,
and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my
members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from
the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our
Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with
the flesh the law of sin.

1 ¶There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ
Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For
the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do,
in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in
the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the
flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in
us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they
that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they
that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be
carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and
peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is
not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then
they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in
the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell
in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none
of his.
10 ¶And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but
the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit
of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that
raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are
debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye
live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit
do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many
as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For
ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye
have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are
the children of God:
17 ¶And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with
Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified
together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time
are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed
in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for
the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made
subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath
subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also
shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious
liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation
groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only
they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit,
even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption,
to wit, the redemption of our body. 24 For we are saved by hope:
but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth
he yet hope for? 25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do
we with patience wait for it.
26 ¶Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know
not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And
he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,
because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will
of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to
them that love God, to them who are the called according to his
purpose.
29 ¶For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed
to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called:
and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified,
them he also glorified.
31 ¶What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who
can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered
him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us
all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect?
It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ
that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right
hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate
us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution,
or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written,
For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as
sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded,
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor
depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from
the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
