San Fancisco, CA:
          the Golden Gate Bridge
9/24/03  We woke up this morning at Manchester State Park and we could hear the ocean.  Kim hooked up Ginger to the bike and I had Sam on the leash and we headed for the ocean sounds.  Kim zoomed ahead with Ginger on the bike and Sam did not like this one bit and ran full bore after Kim and Ginger leaving me in the dust.   It was a long hike to the Ocean so we turned around and Kim rode with Ginger around a loop.  Ginger was so excited to see Sam and myself that she practically dragged Kim and the bike back over to us.  I found out later that Ginger had seen a jack rabbit and unsuccessfully pulled Kim over to chase it.
Since there was still an marine layer we decided to head inland and make some time.  We turned right and got on a VERY twisty and curvy road with blind one lane curves with logging trucks and steep grades.  It made for a very exciting morning to say the least and I think we all breathed a sigh of relief to be back on a road with constant white lines to our sides.  We made it back to 101 and headed towards San Francisco.
Coming through a tunnel we spied the towering heights of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Just to the right was the Golden Gate Park and we turned in to see the Bridge up close.  We drove up a steep hill to the top where we saw WWII bunkers and beautiful views of San Francisco.  Though the skies were dark, sunlight illuminated parts of the town and Alcatraz.
We enjoyed the views for while then headed on our journey through rush hour traffic.  We ended up going straight through San Francisco and got to enjoy looking at some of the older buildings.
It was a slow go through 101 in rush hour but we finally made it through and past San Jose.  We were so tired that we saw a Walmart on the way and stopped at it.  Neither of us have any idea where we are!  (We were in Salinas CA.  The folks were very nice, it was a great area!)  We had stir fry and we will probably soon go to sleep.  I am so tired this probably isnt making much sense.  I cant wait to get away from people!
