Character Bios

Android #17

Created for one sole purpose, #17's mission is to destroy Goku. Constructed from a human base, #17 is not completely mechanical. During GT #17 is destined to become one with another Android #17 duplicate in order to form Super Android 17. His duplicate's evil wishes finally come true when he is convinced to become one powerful being and unleash his ultimate power.

Artificial #17
Artificial #17 is an android created by Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu in hell. He escaped through a portal into the land of the living (Earth) and fused with Android #17 to become Super #17.

Android #18
#17's twin sister, #18 has identical fighting strength. Like her brother, she is also created from a human base. She is married to Krillin and has a daughter named Maron. As Krillin gets older she seems to remain with her beauty, but only changes hair style.

Trunks
Son of Bulma and Vegeta. There are essentially two different Trunks, one coming from a grim and chaotic future and one that was born in to a comfortable home in a comparatively more peaceful time.

Teenage Trunks from the future (Mirai), age 17, arrives just when Frieze and King Cold have come to earth in order to wreak revenge on Goku. However, the connivance of these sub-temperature villains is foiled by Trunks, who hacks Freezer to pieces and finishes off his dad too. Minutes later, Goku's ship from Planet Namek touches down, and Trunks has a little pow-wow with the Saiyan hero.

Trunks convinces Goku of a disastrous future when Goku has died of heart disease and evil Androids are running amuck. He informs Goku of where the Androids will come and, fortunately for Goku, gives him medicine from the future that will remedy the presently incurable disease.

Trunks later comes back to check up on Goku, only to discover that he (Trunks) has inadvertently changed the past (as he knew it). New androids appear (#19, #20, and #16) and the ones he is worried about, #17 and #18, turn out to be harmless.

However, a great menace appears, a biologically-created creature named Cell. (The story gets somewhat complicated here.) Trunks stays on to battle Cell, and returns to the future satisfied, after Cell is defeated by Gohan. Back to the future (sorry), Trunks, now much stronger after training with Goku in the past, easily defeats the evil androids and future Cell, restoring peace in his time. Trunks from the future is pensive, battle-hardened, and weary of the destruction and violence of the future.

The other Trunks is chibi Trunks, who is best friends with Goten. This Trunks, age 8, takes things for granted, having lived comfortably as part of the Capsule Corp. empire and knowing no hardships that future Trunks experienced.

Definitely more rambunctious than future Trunks, chibi Trunks is full of wild antics, such as knocking out a fighter, taking his costume and, along with Goten, pretending to be him in order to participate in the adult division of the Tenkaichi Budoukai. Trunks, just like his best friend, mastered super saiyan naturally. Trunks can fuse with Goten to become Gotenks.

Goku Jr.
Goku Jr. is seen in the last episode of Dragon Ball GT and in the Dragon Ball GT TV Special. In the series he is fighting in a World Tournament against Vegeta Jr. Goku Jr. is one sixteenth Saiyan and fifteen sixteenths Human. Pan is the grandmother of Goku Jr.

Goten

Goku's second child. Born sometime after the battle with Cell. At the time his older brother Gohan is 16, he is 7.

Physically, Goten looks just like his father when he was young, especially because of the hair. Apparently, the genetic coding for hair in Saiyan lower-level warrior males comes from a limited pool, for Goku's father Bardock also had similar hair and a totally unrelated lower-level warrior, Tulece also had a similar hair-do...

ANYWAY, Goten is a boy full of energy who has learned basic martial arts skills from his mom, training with his best friend, Trunks, and from his brother Gohan. His innate fighting ability inherited from his father, just like Gohan, is great. He has naturally mastered, along with Trunks, Super saiyan without going through special training or using anger as a trigger.

Goten enjoys playing and fighting more than studying, for apparently, Chichi was less harsh on him than his older brother. He enters the 25th Tenkaichi Budoukai, which turns out to be a kind of reunion of sorts, since the late Goku was granted special permission to visit the real world and attend the tournament for one day. Thus, Goten sees his father for the first time.

In the Kid's Division of the Tournament, Goten ends up fighting Trunks for the championship, and narrowly ends up with second place. Goten and Trunks also enter the Adult Division, masquerading as another fighter, Mighty Mask.

During the Buu confrontations, Goku, with his limited time on earth, teaches Goten and Trunks a new technique he learned while he was in the other world-Fusion. Fusion, a technique of the Metamora Aliens, allows two fighters of similar power levels to fuse to become one, stronger fighter. With this technique, the two kids become Gotenks, an almost totally different character-a haughty one at that. Gotenks successfully fights evil Buu, but like Ultraman, time runs out, before Buu is completely defeated. Ten years later, in the epilogue, Goten is a teenager leading an ordinary life, trying to date girls.

Gohan
Gohan is married to Videl and has a daughter named Pan. Ten years later after the end of Dragon Ball Z, he is a scholar and has pretty much given up on training. He is not seen a lot in the series like in DBZ but still has the capacity to take on the strongest opponents.

Dr. Gero

Dr. Gero is the intelligent engineer of Red Ribbon. He developed hatred towards Goku because Goku destroyed Red Ribbon. He is the creator of Androids 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 21, and makes himself into Android 20. He was betrayed and killed by Android 17. But, he allies with Dr. Myuu in hell to create Artificial 17 and escapes to Earth, where he was betrayed and killed by Super 17 upon Dr. Myuu's orders.

Dai-Kaioushin (Elder Supreme Kai)

Dai-Kaioushin is the "Supreme" elder Kaioushin. He has a crystal ball that allows him to see what's happening on Earth. Dai-Kaioushin also helped Gohan enter his Mystic form, and sacrificed his own life to revive Goku.

Ubuu
Ubuu (Oob) is the reincarnation of evil Buu. He is one of the good guys and went to train with Goku. When fat Buu was killed by Baby, Buu's particles fused back with Ubuu; they were originally one. Ubuu also won Satan's title as the world's best fighter.

Uranai Baba
Uranai Baba is Master Roshi's sister. This little old witch can bring a dead person back to life for 24 hours and can see the what's happening in the world with her crystal ball. She can also see the future (for money of course!).

Dr. Myuu
Dr. Myuu is the evil extraterrestrial scientist who created a bunch of robots and mutant androids. He is also the creator of Gill. His laboratory and creations were destroyed by Goku, Trunks, and Pan, and he himself was betrayed and killed by Bebi, who he found in space and saved. In hell, he allies with Dr. Gero to create Artificial 17. After escaping to Earth, he orders Super 17 to kill Dr. Gero. However, Super 17 eventually grows annoyed of Dr. Myuu and kills him.

Frieza
Frieza is a space conqueror who killed King Vegeta and took over Planet Vegeta. He used the Saiyan inhabitants as mercenaries to take over other planets, but betrayed and destroyed Planet Vegeta. Later, he lands on Namek to seek the dragonballs to wish for immortality, but was defeated by Goku. His body parts were found in space by his father and he was rebuilt into robotic form. (Killed by Future Trunks) He allied with Cell to terrorize hell, but was defeated by Pikkon and Goku. He attempted this once again in Dragonball GT, but was once again defeated by Goku.

Goku
The main character. Goku starts off at the beginning of the story as a young boy who's 12 years old (he says he's 14, but later learns that 12 comes after 11).
The story follows his life up to adulthood, which covers 42 volumes of the comic book. At the beginning, he is living deep in the mountains by himself; he was raised by his late step father, Son Gohan. However, he's no ordinary boy, he sports a tail and is strong enough to lift small cars and deflect bullets. His step father had taught him kung-fu.
His rustic life is interrupted by a teenager named Bulma, who coerces him to come along on her quest to find the legendary Dragon Balls. Goku's life is changed forever; he meets the first human ever since the death of his step father, he encounters bandits, anthropomorphic animals, and an emperor of the world-wannabe.
Goku's isolated, rural origins are obvious at first, for initially, he can't visually tell the difference between males and females, doesn't know what money is, doesn't know how to use an elevator, and is surprised by various forms of technology.
After the first adventure with Bulma and some other characters they meet along the way, Goku finds his way to Kamesenin's place (A.K.A. Muten roshi) in order to pursue more martial arts training. There, he meets his life-long friend, Krillin.
From now on, Goku's life becomes that of continually furthering his fighting capabilities (to the point beyond any normal human can ever fathom). He encounters various foes, and each one seems to be exponentially stronger than the one before. Progressively, he fights off the ruthless Red Ribbon Army, the conniving Pilaf and Co., the evil Piccolo Sr., the evil Piccolo Jr., his bad brother Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, the Ginyu Special Combat Team, the cold Freezer, Androids, the diabolical Cell, and finally Majin Buu. Goku also enters into several martial arts tournaments, the Tenkaichi Budoukai, the first two (#21 & #22) of which resulted in second place, and in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai, he finally won, over evil Piccolo Jr.
After the grueling match with evil Piccolo Jr., Goku formally marries Chichi, fulfilling a promise that he unknowingly made when he was a boy. He has two children, Gohan and Goten. Goku dies twice in the manga, once after fighting Raditz, the other after he transports Cell. Ten years after he defeats evil Buu, Goku is hardy as ever, training for the 28th Budoukai. At that tournament, he meets the boy Uubu, who turns out to be the reincarnation of Buu. Goku, satisfied with this boy's potential, makes him his student, and leaves the tournament.
Goku also becomes the main character, along with Trunks and Pan, of the Dragon Ball GT TV series. DB GT is not based on manga, it is created from completely new plot with Toriyama Akira having little participation. In this TV series, a new adventure unfolds, with Goku turning in to a child, for starters.
Goku, by nature, is very kind-hearted and innocent. In fact, this influences many of his original rivals or enemies to eventually become his friends. These people include Yamcha, Krillin, Yajirobe, Tien, Chiaotzu, Piccolo Jr., and even Vegeta. He is also very adventuresome, and like a true Saiyan warrior, he loves to fight and is fueled by the insatiable hunger to get stronger.
He is already quite strong at the beginning of the manga, but he becomes even more powerful as he learns various techniques and trains hard. He masters such as Kamehameha, Genki-dama, Kaio-ken, Super saiyan, teleportation, super saiyan 3. Like all Saiyan, he burns up an incredible amount of calories, and thus, he eats mammoth amounts of food. (As a boy, he once cleaned out an entire restaurant)
At the beginning of the manga series, we assume that Goku is human, albeit a tail and a very minor, unnoticeable tendency to become a gigantic were-ape when he sees a full moon. However, when Raditz comes to destroy earth, we learn, and Goku learns, that Goku is actually Kakkarott, a lower-level warrior sent from Planet Vegeta to earth to exterminate humans. In fact, Raditz is actually Goku's brother who comes to check up on his progress. The tail is a characteristic feature of the Saiyan aliens, which allows them to power up to ten times their normal level of strength during the full moon. In the TV series, we learn he is the second child of Bardock.

Gill
Gill is the little robot with the feature of a dragon radar created by Dr. Myuu. It was found by Goku, Pan, and Trunks and befriended the crew.

Brolly
Brolly is a super saiyan born on the same day as Goku and has a natural hatred towards him. As a baby, he was sent for execution by King Vegeta (who feared Brolly's awesome power) but survived. Years later, he encounters Goku again and trashes everyone, but is finally defeated by Goku. Survives and crashes on Earth. This time, he is killed by a fireball combination of Goku, Gohan, and Goten. Gets a clone created from the DNA of his blood. The clone is destroyed by hardening in water.

Vegeta Jr.

Vegeta Jr. fights against Goku Jr. in the very last World Tournament shown in the series. Vegeta Jr. can go Super Saiyan like any other Saiyan descendent. Vegeta Jr. is the son of one of Bulma's descendent, she is shown cheering for him in the crowd of the tournament.

Blackstar Shenron

In Dragonball GT, after the death of Super #17, Goku and his friends put together the 7 Dragonballs. Instead of Shenron appears a black dragon that represents the negative energy accumulated for many years (because the Dragonballs use positive energy). Then this Dragon is divided into 7 evil shenrons.

Chii Shenron

Chii Shenlong is the evil dragon of the 7 star dragonball. This dragon with the ability to absorb and control other creatures was born when Bulma revived the people killed by Majin-Vegeta. (killed by Goku).

Li Shenron
Ii Shenlong is the evil dragon of the 1 star dragonball; strongest of the evil Shenlongs. It fused with all the dragonballs, but was killed in Goku's giant Genki-Dama (Spirit Bomb).

Janemba
Janenba is the evil spirit of the dead who took over the body of a teenager working in the heavens. Janenba disrupted the heavens and brought all the dead back to life. He was vanquished by Gogeta and the teenager returned to normal.

Launch
Lunch a bank robber with 2 sides. She changes between her "good side" and her "bad side" each time she sneezes. Lunch fell in love with Tienshinhan in Dragonball, but hardly appeared again in Dragonball Z or Dragonball GT.

Maron
Maron is the daughter of Krillin and Android 18. Maron can also refer to another girl who had a curse on Krillin during Dragonball. Krillins daughter was named after his "ex".

Nappa
Nappa is the evil Saiyan partner of Vegeta. He and Vegeta traveled together to Earth to seek he dragonballs for immortality. Nappa is responsible for the deaths of Chiaotzu, Yamcha, and Piccolo. When Goku beat him up, he was betrayed and killed by Vegeta. When Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu escaped from hell in Dragonball GT, Nappa escaped as well and was killed again by Vegeta.

Oolong
Oolong is a pig-like human (or human-like pig) who is Goku's friend.
Initially, though, he is a rogue character that raids towns of food and girls (he's a pervert). He does so by transforming into some scary-looking robot or animal or demon. However, young Goku is recruited to stop this pillaging, and he unmasks the true identity of this shape-changing monster (more or less innocuous pig). Thus, Oolong is forced to apologize and return all of the girls he kidnapped (they were living well, though, and refused to go back to the farming village).
He then accompanies Goku and Bulma on their trek to locate the Dragon Balls, and tries to escape when the going gets rough. At the end of their journey, he prevents emperor-wannabe Pilaf from getting his wish when Oolong asks the Shenlong for panties instead. Throughout the Dragon Ball saga, he appears sporadically. Like Puar below, he is not a warrior type.

Ox-king
Ox-King is a crazy loyal student of Master Roshi and owner of Fire Mountain. He is also the father of Chi-Chi.

Emperor Pilaf
Pilaf was the first enemy of Goku. He attempted to steal the dragonballs from Goku and Bulma to wish for world domination, but ran away after Goku reached Oozaru stage and destroyed his castle. Years later, in Dragonball GT, Pilaf reappeared and accidentally wished Goku back into a kid and ran away once again.

Ryan Shenron
Ryan Shenlong is the evil dragon of the 2-star dragonball. This dragon of water (pollution) was born when Boar was wished back to life. (Killed by Goku.)

Ryuu Shenron
Ryuu Shenlong is the evil dragon of the 6 star dragonball. This dragon of hurricane was born when Oolong wished for a pair of panties. (Killed by Goku.)

San Shenron
San Shenlong is Suu Shenlong's older brother; evil dragon of the 3 star dragonball. This dragon is associated with ice.

Suh Shenron
Suu Shenlong is the evil dragon of the 4 star dragonball. This dragon of the sun (heat) was born when Daimao wished to restore to full power.

Uh Shenron
Uu Shenlong is the evil dragon of the 5 star dragonball. This dragon of electricity was born when Goku was wished back to life to fight Nappa and Vegeta. (Killed by Goku.)

Vidal
Videl is Hercule's (Mr. Satan) daughter. She joined Gohan in crime fighting and became part of the Great Saiyan-man team. Later, she married Gohan and had a daughter, Pan.

Yamcha
Yamcha is one of the original characters from Dragonball. Originally he suffered from an inability to speak with women because of how shy he was, so he wanted to summon Shenlong Lung to wish for a girlfriend. When Yamcha met Bulma, it was love at first sight, and they remained a couple for many years. In the end however, Bulma ended up with Vegeta.
Yamcha was a fierce competitor in the first Budokai, but he suffers the same fate as Krillin, as his importance diminishes in Dragonball Z by the presence of the mighty Super Saiyans.

Vegetto
Vegetto is the result of Goku and Vegeta fused when each wore one of Dai-Kaioushin's special earrings on opposite ears. Vegetto was able to stand up to Buu, but allowed Buu to absorb him anyway to rescue their comrades still inside of Buu's body and so that the effects of the permanent fusion would be cancelled.

Vegeta
Goku's enemy at first, later rival. Born on Planet Vegeta as a prince, this proud Saiyan is classified as an elite warrior.
He arrives on earth after hearing that Raditz has died. Along with Nappa, another Saiyan, they have come to claim earth and find the Dragon Balls, which they learned from Raditz shortly before his death.
Goku easily defeats Nappa, but a big battle unfolds between Goku and Vegeta. Goku realizes the strength of his opponent and uses his newly learned Kaio-Ken. Vegeta, on the other hand, is enraged that a lower-level warrior like Goku can put up such a good fight. This major battle, which was, I'd say, well sequenced and excellently portrayed in the manga, ends up nearly in a draw. Goku, who fights to his limits, pushes Vegeta into using the big ape form. This is a major blow to Goku (literally). However, the fight ends up nearly tied, as Yajirobe daringly slices Vegeta's tail off (this returns the ape back to normal) and as Gohan turns into a giant ape and falls on top of Vegeta.
Later, on Planet Namek, Vegeta ends up teaming up with the Z Warriors to battle the common enemy, Freezer. This relationship is an uneasy one; Krillin and Gohan are wary of him and, indeed, Vegeta was planning to finish them off after Freezer was cleared away. Vegeta fights the Ginyu Special Combat Team and Freezer, before being killed by the ice box from Hades.
He is brought back to life on earth and ends up living there after the Freezer Episodes. On earth, Vegeta sort of mellows out, develops a relationship with Bulma, and has his son, Trunks. With the other warriors, he fights evil Androids #19 and #20 (Dr. Gero), the supposedly evil Androids #16, #17, and #18, fights the various stages of Cell, and takes on Buu.
Vegeta is driven by the incessant desire to become stronger than Goku, who always seems to be a step ahead of him. Proud and adamant, he will not allow anyone to be more powerful than he is; after all, he is the prince. Like Goku, the Saiyan blood in him makes him crave fighting.
However, being with Goku and his friends changes him. Once full of pure evil, his black heart becomes diluted into a shade of gray. He shows signs of affection to his son, Trunks, when they are training in the gravity room at Capsule Corp. headquarters. (He promises to take him to an amusement park).
But, apparently, there is a violent conflict deep down inside him; he tries to deal with his inherent evil and his acquired goodness (hey you psych majors -the cognitive dissonance must been great). This conflict plays out in the Buu Episodes, when Vegeta willingly submits to Babidi's trance in order to clear his conscience and fight Goku as an evil enemy as he was way back when.
But, Goku sees through Vegeta's antics and knows that Vegeta will never be able to return to the pure evil that he once was. Goku is right; Vegeta stops his battle with him and fights Buu instead. For the first time in his life, he fights for a cause that is not his own. Shortly before he self explodes to destroy Buu, he puts his hand on Trunks and tells him his last words and regards for his wife Bulma.
Vegeta is later revived in order to help Goku fight Buu, and they fuse through Potara into the warrior, Vegetto. In the end, Vegeta relinquishes his evil (or most of it) and stymies his pride when he calls Goku the number one warrior. In the epilogue, we find out that he has a second child, Bra.

Tien
Tien was originally a disciple of Tienshinhan, a rival of Kame training to become an assassin like Tienshinhans brother, Tao Pai Pai. He made the scene in the 22nd Budokai and seemed to be an especially arrogant character who thought he would win the competition without a doubt. After meeting Son Goku, however, that all changed.
Goku defeated Tao Pai Pai. Tienshinhan wanted vengeance, even if it meant cheating in the competition and killing Goku. When Tien faced Goku on the final match, Goku turned out to be such a challenge that he no longer wanted to be a killer nor a disciple of Tienshinhan. He only wanted to have a fair match against Goku using his own strength. After defeating Goku by a very narrow margin, he realized he did not want to learn the evil ways of Tienshinhan and he along with Chiaotzu became disciples of Kame instead. Thereafter, Goku became someone he constantly tried to emulate. Even the presence of powerful Saiyans does not stop him from trying to become the best.

Bebi
Bebi was created by the Tsufuru-jins when the Saiyans took over Planet Plant. He attempted to take revenge and slowly turned most of Earth's inhabitants into his zombies (although all his zombies returned to normal after Dende and Mr. Popo sprayed them with special water). He also recreated his planet with the dragonballs and took over Vegeta's body to become Bebi-Vegeta. (Killed by Goku).

Bra
The second child of Bulma and Vegeta, Bra plays little role in the series. She looks very much like her mother, and shares many aspects of her personality. Bra serves mostly as comic relief.

Bubbles
Bubbles is the King Kai's pet monkey. His job is to act as the preliminary test in Kai's martial arts training by running away from trainees and forcing them to chase him. He's a very fast, playful monkey, and he does not speak much.

Bulma
Bulma has blue hair, and is the mother of Trunks. Although Bulma has no skills as a fighter, she is a genius with all sorts of electronics, alien and domestic. She and Vegeta start to show more affection for each other after he is possessed by Bebi. Her invention is the main thing that gets Vegeta to his new found power, Super Saiyan 4.

Cell
Cell makes a return along with his new partner Frieza. They both take on chibi Goku in a tag-team fight. Since Cell can no longer die, he gives it his all without the thought of death to stop him. Although he can't die, he is frozen by a machine in the other world.

Dr. Brief
Dr. Brief is the founder and CEO of the Capsule Corporation. He is the genius responsible for creating many of the handy devices that Bulma uses on her adventures. Everything in the series that is spawned from one of those dynamic capsules was invented by either Dr. Brief or Bulma. Dr. Brief plays a pretty small role in the story, and is often used as comic relief.

Dr. Gero
In GT Dr. Gero teams up with Dr. Myuu (both in the other world). They create an Android #17 duplicate which will seek the original Android #17 and unite to become the ultimate android, Super Android #17.

Mrs. Brief
Mrs. Brief is the wife of Dr. Brief and the mother of Bulma. She plays a very small role in the story, but talks a lot. She has the sunniest disposition in the series, and is impeccably nice to everyone.
