Erich Steffens was a punishing wrestler who dominated
opponents physically. Erich was a 3 time LCAA County
Champion and a 2 time Sectional Champion. He placed
4th at the N Y State Championships at 160 lbs. in 1999
and placed 2nd at Supersectionals in 1998. Erich had two
30 win seasons and a 40 win season. A prolific takedown
wrestler, he holds the school record with 117 in a season
and 367 in a career. His record of 160-34, 82% winning
percentage with 69 pins and 367 takedowns places him in
the top 4 all-time at Wayland. 2 time Wayland Most
Valuable Wrestler and Costello Award winner. Erich was
also a willing volunteer to assist in wrestling fundraisers
and to work with Youth wrestlers. He went on to Ohio
University on academic and wrestling scholarships.
