Character Creation Rules DbN follows the standard White Wolf LARP character creation rules. There are specific books available that you should have in order to create and play your character. The most important book is Laws of the Night. Start off with a Character Concept and let the Storyteller know what you're planning on playing. If you need help with this, contact the Storyteller or a Narrator. Choose a clan. There are 6 Camarilla clans, choose from any of them. Other clans are allowed. However, you should consult the Storyteller or a Narrator before fully creating a non-Camarilla character (example, you come up with a great idea for a Tzimice Infernalist and create the character. Unfortunately, we're not allowing Tzimice or infernalists in the game at this time--leaving you to create a new character after taking so much time perfecting your previous character). All characters start out at 13th Generation and can typically be bought down to no lower than 11th Gen. You may take up to 10 points in flaws, negative traits and derangements to put toward bonus traits at a one to one ratio (you can take more than 10 in negatives, etc., but only the first ten points count toward bonus traits). Beyond the 10 potential bonus traits, you may take an additional 5 freebee traits plus clan advantages and disadvantages. Since Laws of the Night is vague (at best) regarding humanity/path traits and virtue traits (listing at least two separate creation rules for them), I'll elaborate as best as I can on how to determine your point values.
You may not have higher than the first Intermediate level of a Discipline (and only one Discipline can go that high). As far as abilities, you should not take higher than 2 levels within any one ability and you cannot take higher than 3 levels in any one ability. Remember, things must be justified on your sheet. This means you will have to make sacrifices. Example: If you do not have any points invested in Resources, your character is poor/poverty stricken. However, If you want your character to be fairly well off, you can invest (up to 3) traits in Resources--allowing your character to live quite comfortable and with some level of amenities. However, by having this comfort level, you give up something else. Those are points you could have spent on traits or abilities or something else. It's all about choices. Also, please remember to write up a brief history of your character (along with the Character Questionnaire). This will help the Storyteller and Narrators to make your gaming experience all the more rich and exciting. You will need to have two copies of your character sheet as well. One copy is to be turned into the Storyteller and Narrators and the other is for you to keep for yourself. Hopefully, this has been useful to you in getting your character started. We look forward to seeing you at the game!
