Stock Downloader. About. This program will allow you to automatically download historical intraday stock data from the Internet. Together with the Trader day trading simulator software it gives you a powerfull tool to produce free intraday charts. Stock quotes are obtained from the yahoo historical stock quote server and are 15 minutes delayed. In addition to historical intraday data you can download historical day-end quotes. Both types of data can then be used by the Trader or other similar software to create a trading system and to backtest it on historical data. Download Installation. Download the Stock Downloader archive. Unzip it in the directory where you want this program to resign. When specifying options in your Winzip software, make sure you restore all subdirectories (subfolders). Usually it is the default setting. Installation is complete. Uninstallation. Delete the folder containing the Stock Downloader. Setting options. From main menu choose Tools - Options. In the dialog box you can specify stocks to download, by entering stock symbol into the "Download symbol for : " field and then clicking "Add" button. It will add the symbol to the list on the right. To add stock symbol to the list on the left, which is the list of stocks for which quotes will be downloaded, click the '<' button (to move selected stocks), or '<<' button, to copy all stock symbols from list on the right, to list on the left. To select more than one stock in the list, use mouse while holding down the CTRL key while using the mouse. To delete selected stock symbols from the right list, click the "Delete" button. In the Day "Day trading info" group of controls, you can select start and end time for the program to download stock quotes from the Yahoo. Notice that Yahoo quotes are delayed. If you just use the program to get quotes (for example for the "Trader" program), you do not have to check the "15 minutes quote delay" check box. But if you are using Stock Downloader and Trader together, in "real" time, so that trader is getting data as soon as Stock Downloader downloads them, once a minute, then you need to check this box. In this case the Stock Downloader will save the last 15 minutes data and will send it to Trader the next morning, during the first 15 minutes of trades. It is just an attempt to work around the quotes delay, and I strongly recommend to get the real streaming software if you want to do real time trades. Use this option for testing only. In the "Day end info" group specify the start and end date for stock quotes. If the start date is before stock appeared on the market, it will be properly adjusted. If you want to leave your computer unattended, but do not want to keep it in the Internet forever, check the "Reboot" checkbox. The Stock Downloader will reboot the computer at the end of the trading day. In the "Internet" line, specify the location of your Internet dialer, so that the Stock Downloader can connect to the Internet when trade session begins. It is only necessary if you start the computer BEFORE the trading session and then intend to leave it unattended. The "Time Sync" line may contain the path to the executable of your (if you have one) time synchronizing software, so that it can adjust your computer clock before the session. Again, you can ignore it. Example. You are going on vacations. And you want the Stock Downloader to work during this period so that you have intraday stock quotes. First, select quotes to download. Then check the "reboot" option and specify the location of the Internet dialer. There is one more thing you might want to do so that the software runs even better. Sometimes computer errors happen. And to make things worse, some programs (whatever you run on your computer) will display error messages and then STOP and wait for the user to click "OK". There are free programs to close those windows automatically. I personally recommend the RTV Reco program. I used it and was able to leave the computer unattended downloading intraday data from the Internet for about two months. Downloading the Day-End quotes. From the main menu select "Tools - Download Historical quotes". You need to be online. Downloading the intraday quotes From the main menu select "Start downloading" to start, and "Stop downloading" to stop. Trader software is designed in such way, that if some data is missing, it will still work correctly, so do not worry, if you had to reboot your computer in the middle of the day.
