Our Mission
The Silmarillion Writers' Guild was founded in 2005 as an organization for authors and readers of Silmarillion fan fiction to meet and discuss ideas and research, share stories, and improve their craft as writers. SWG is proud to be affiliated with no other archives or groups and welcomes members from all over the Internet, from a variety of nationalities and backgrounds, and with all levels of writing experience. It is our hope to create a community known as a comfortable place for authors and readers to meet, as a source of valuable reference materials, and as an archive that features a wealth of fresh and innovative writing. While there are many online groups devoted to the study of J.R.R. Tolkien's writings and fan fiction based off of these works, none focus exclusively on The Silmarillion, and authors of such work often find their voices drowned by the more prolific and popular community centering on The Lord of the Rings.
Our mission is twofold. Firstly, we hope to create a comfortable home for writers and readers of Silmarillion fan fiction and research without the pressure and drama of other Tolkien archives. Secondly, we want to become a resource for writers and Silmarillion fans alike: a place to go for answers to questions ranging from obscure canon to grammatical nitpicks.
SWG is still a small group, with a small member base, but we are growing and hope you'll join us on our journey!
