| 4-7 UGH... that has been my catch-phrase this week. This has been one of the most unusual weeks I have had since coming to college. First off, a bunch of my classes were cancelled by the Profs for no particular reason. This was nice as it provided a pleasant break, but still very strange. Secondly, this was some kind of greek week, which automatically upsets everything on campus into a state of frenzy and spontaneity whether you are greek or not. Monday I went to theater design and learned about LIGHTING of all things! I could probably teach that unit myself thanks to the esteemed Keith Larkins class at East last year. We learned about warm and cool lighting, fresnels, ellipsoidals, and stuff like that. Lisa is probably the only one who can appreciate the boredom I was feeling during this lecture, but for the rest of you, suffice to say that it was nap-inducing. I was feeling adventurous after that class so I actually went to my US politics class (hey, I TOLD you it was a weird week!) Well, Prof Unekis has a cold this week, accompanied by a bad cough, so the one time I do decide to go and no one can understand a word the man is saying! I shoulda known. Tuesday was fairly worthless, I went to classes and did some work. I did meet with my open-option councilor to discuss declaring my various majors, but after a long talk we decided that I will continue being the clueless open-options student you all know and love I just have some direction now! The upside to this is that I will still be in the college of Arts & Sciences... the downside is that I actually have to pay attention to the classes I take! What kind of fun is that? Wednesday was nice because, due to cancellations, I only had to go to one class, and that was jogging. I slept until 11:30 on Wednesday and I can tell you all that it was nothing short of WONDERFUL! I went to jogging, left early to go to a group meeting in the library, and then proceeded to have a very lazy day. Thurday was quite a different story: I had my second Honors Sociology test at 9:30 that morning. It was solid essay my brains were oozing out of my facial orifices like orange marmalade from a sandwich that gets sat on by a fat dude. You all know the feeling you have after taking the ACTs for the first time? Or like coming out from under sedation after surgery? Yeah, this was similar. I was numb from the neck up for the rest of the day. That night I got pretty pissed off, although I will not go into that here and now because the situation has resolved itself. I needed to blow off some steam so I went to the Rec and ran ten miles in 1:27:42 (sub-nine splits!). I felt awesome after finishing although the walk home seemed a lot more arduous than it usually does. I stretched pretty good after finishing, but I still had a lot of trouble sleeping that night because my legs were so sore. Friday I had several classes cancelled because of absent Profs and because of the campus open-house, so I skipped what classes remained and went sailing! Carolyn and I bopped down to Clinton, but to our disappointment, when we got there we found the water like glass. It was the calmest I have ever seen Clinton: not even the smallest ripple in the water or the slightest hint of a puff of wind. We had fun anyway; ate a sack lunch from the Derb, fell asleep and got sunburned... the usual stuff. Attention spans in mind, we decided that we might as well make the drive back to Olathe and pick up some other stuff for the boat. We ran into my parents and ended up getting treated to a Chinese dinner at that place at 119th and 69 highway... I can never remember the name of the place but most of you all know the one Im talking about! Combo fried rice... yum! Saturday morning I trekked down to the union and picked up my free T-shirt that says something about being lost on the front in big letters. I then proceeded to wander campus and help lost souls find their way around campus. (It was open-house) This was entertaining for a while, but it got cold and I just had a hard time putting myself in a helpful mood. I was way too tired, still sore from running, sunburned and getting cold. I tried my best to be a cordial host to potential future wildcats, but it was just not a good morning. The rest of the day passed slowly. We had a small movie night Saturday night with Jesse and Kari, where we watched Last of the Mohicans... you gotta love the soundtrack to that movie! Add in Colonial Monroes Scottish jabbering and the fact that those Mohican guys really know how to bust skulls and you got a pretty entertaining flick. Today, Sunday has been equally lazy... although as soon I finish this I am going over to West because it is Alisons birthday today. Happy birthday Alison! Then tonight I will start on one of the FOUR papers that I have due on Wednesday. It is hard to capture the confusion of this week in my weekend update. I hope you all can see just how ponderous things have been here inside the head of that kid who sleeps on the bottom bunk of 713 Haymaker. I am looking forward to re-establishing contact with some kind of baseline in the coming week, for if I do not I fear I might just flip out and do something rash like... well I cant think of anything rash enough to provide reasonable emphasis, but yall know that I am capable of anything. Thanks for all the feedback Ive been getting about the updates, I really appreciate knowing that people do actually read this. I am proud to announce the TRIPLING of my original subscription list, as I now send this tripe to 30 people! I am honored to hear that several people are considering starting weekend updates of their own... I look forward to reading! Until next time kiddos... keep the rigmarole to a minimum and try to squeeze some fun in with all the studying and stuff! Shiggity-Shiggity-Shwag! -DiggityDiggityDave |
