| 3-31 General Disclaimer: For those of you not familiar with this subscription, this is what I like to call Daves weekend update and what others like to call shameless ego spam. It is the time of the week when I let everyone know at once what is going on in my life so I do not have to repeat the same stories over and over again. You may also notice that in writing my weekend updates, I choose to add some of that Dave flair I know you all love so much. Enjoy reading or enjoy clicking the Delete button, I leave it up to you. Either way, have a GROOVY week! Happy Easter to all. Yes, its that time again: time to remember the resurrection of Christ by honoring the large rabbit who carries around hard-boiled, multi-colored eggs. (???) Sorry, that was my holiday cynicism moment for the year. But seriously, does the Easter Bunny (or as some [Ashley] would say it: BUN-EE) strike anyone else as odd? I was just wondrin. I dont want to sound whiney, but this last week vacuumed severely. I have already used this little piece of poetry in my last weekend update, but I am rather proud of it and I wish to re-emphasize it: I have been up to my nether-regions in homework. It was bad to the point where I was forced to SKIP FRISBEE this week in order to try and keep my assignments under control. Im still behind this week, but it should be much easier Ill catch up. Last Monday and Tuesday I spent going to classes and writing frantically in between. I might have had some fun in there in fact I probably did but I was too stressed and I evidently dont remember it. We began a disturbing but fascinating class discussion in Honors Sociology about inter-sexuals on Tuesday that still baffles me. This sounds odd to you all Im sure, but I really like what my Prof said about it: To learn anything important, it must make you uncomfortable. This was, of course, right before she asked us to explain to her how we knew she was female. What do you say to that? Especially since she is -ahem- rather butch. Im still kind-of concerned about that. Wednesday was not much better, but it was a little more interesting. My schedule now dictates that I go straight from jogging class to Leadership on Wednesdays this means that I am the stinky kid in class. You know, it seems like every class since Kindergarten had one: the boy who never took showers or the girl who played with goats or the kid who couldnt quite seem to control his colon after school lunches. Anyway, I now find myself in the uncomfortable and quite undesired position of being that kid. Fortunately, the class realizes my dilemma and does not take too much offence to it. (Not that they tell me to my face, anyway.) I really hope that my stench is not disturbing anyone too much but I worry because it can only get worse as the temperature increases. I change t-shirts and put on deodorant in the bathroom, but a sweaty guy is a sweaty guy: there is only so much you can do about it. Thursday was a HUGE day I have been doing quite a bit of thinking lately, and on Thursday I came to a revelation: I know what I am doing with my life. I attended a speech by Professor Rick Rigsby from the U of Texas A&M which can only be describes as phenomenal. I know he does speaking circuits in the Midwest, so if any of yall see that he will be anywhere within rational driving distance in the future: GO! Listening to this man talk was what finally pushed me over the edge from indecisiveness to confidence in my future and at 3:30 this Tuesday; I will be declaring a major. Ill repeat that for effect, I am no longer going to be a lovable, carefree open-option student. This week I will declare a dual major in communication and education, along with a minor in leadership. My plans to be a firefighter are still in mind, but it is my sincere desire to take my degrees and one day become a college professor. I do not yet know what I would teach, but give me a break; this has all been somewhat sudden. I would LOVE any feedback on this news; it is the biggest thing that has happened to me in quite some time. The weekend was fun. I went back to Olathe for Easter with the family. Friday night I went to a small birthday get-together at CJs place. It was a fun time of course, and we were graced by an appearance of two of the West girls who I am certain had had QUITE ENOUGH of me and Fink by the end of the night. ;) One word, Fink: OREOS. Saturday was another big day: I spent the duration of Saturday with Mom, Pops and Mike out at Lake Clinton preparing the boats for this season! Yes sports fans, you heard me correctly: SAILING SEASON HAS BEGUN! I am currently at the mercy of Manhattanites with vehicles however, and I am absolutely freakin out to go sailing. I tend to get irritable when I am antsy, so to all yall out there at KSU with cars: take me or be prepared to deal with me at a level of obnoxiousness you have never before seen!!! It will also be oodles of noodles and fun, so lets go already! Sunday I went to the Johnson County Christian Church with the family. I had never been to this church before and it was a major switch from the Catholic Church in WaKeeney, as Im sure you can imagine. I really dug all the music (they had about a 20-piece band playing along during the singing which was really impressive), but the jury is still out on whether I liked the message of the morning. Being a devout Davidist, I am still deciding up from down, but you all can be sure about one thing: I am a hard-core individualist to the end. Argue all you want, but in the end its all pure heathen insanity to someone else. The hour is late, the pillow is calling and my foot is asleep. Have a great week kids and Ill catch ya in about one-hundred and sixty-eight hours. -DAVE, whose MIND SHINES with the BRILLIANCE of a THOUSAND SUNS or maybe a 55 watt light bulb, same thing Happy Easter to all and Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad! :) |
