| INFORMATION ON THE DESCENDENTS OF JOSEPH DAVIS, LUCRETIA DAVIS, & REBECCA NEWSON DAVIS: | ||||||||||||||||||
| Joseph Davis according his grandsons, J. Wesley Davis, and David G. Davis, of | ||||||||||||||||||
| ,Blunn, Ga. in 1957, was a jugware peddler, better known as "Jugger" Davis, because he peddled jugware in Warren, Glasoock and Jefferson counties; He was witness to many business papers in G1ascock County, and joined the 22nd Regiment at Camp McDonald Sept.3, for service in the Confederate cause. Joseph served in Companies I and B.� | ||||||||||||||||||
| This Joseph Davis died in Glascock County in 1878, and among hid estate was found | ||||||||||||||||||
| one lot of jugware, verifying the fact that he was a jugware peddler of no mean sort. | ||||||||||||||||||
| According his age, of 44 g,iven ,in the 1870 Census he was born in South Carolina in 1826 having been brought to Ga., been brot to this state by relatives between 1826 and 1847-his oldest child, Lawson G. Davis, have been born to Lucretia in 1848, or he migrated himself as a young man, probably after he was 18 or 20,years of, age. | ||||||||||||||||||
| ������ There were four sons by Lucretia Davis: Lawson G. [Gamble] Davis, Charley Davis, Matthew T. Davis, and Joseph L. Davis. Lawson became the father of John Thomas Davis, and James Franklin Davis by Rutha [Glover]. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Charlie Davis married a Miss Canady in what is now Candler County; they became the parents of about 8 girls, but no boys, Matthew T. and Joseph L. Davis were lost in the shuf�fle of time; no more census report found on them. --after 1860. | ||||||||||||||||||
| John Thomas Davis, son of Lawson G. Davis wed Jennie Allen and they became the parents of | ||||||||||||||||||
| Henry Grady Davis who passed away Jan.29th, 1974; OzaF..Davis, now of Decatrur, Ga. Ada Davis Carelock, lives in Fitzgerald; and Rutha Belle Davis Rowland who died and was buried at Denton, | ||||||||||||||||||
| Georgia in 1959. JAMES FRANKLIN DAVIS, 2nd son of Lawson, c never wed, died & buried at Hazelhurst, Georgia in 1897. | ||||||||||||||||||
