TV Shows And Their Application To Modern Life

TV shows and their application to modern life

I’ve never really believed in morality, or taken for granted anything anyone has told me about ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. I know that these ideas are merely guidelines for life so we can all live together easier than if we were all completely unique. I am proud to pick and choose my influences and guides to what I think my life should be life.

But enough about philosophy… Here is a list of TV shows and the lessons they teach us about modern life.

The OC

Plot: A show about the problems of the rich and sexy in Orange County.

Lesson: Wealth is directly related to happiness: the problems of the rich cause the happiness of the poor. Also, the pains and problems of modern life are funnier when they affect rich people.

The Simpsons

Plot: A dysfunctional American family. (Like you don’t know!)

Lesson: America is great. If you are a middle class, lazy, white, fat and bald man.

Family Guy

Plot: Another dysfunctional American family.

Lesson: Jokes that are unbelievably offensive are always unbelievably funny.

Big Brother

Plot: The cretins of society piss each other off on camera.

Lesson: If you take ten people with a combined IQ of less than ten, put them in a house they don’t deserve, and expose them to publicity and wealth they shouldn’t ever have, then you can keep tabloids and women’s magazines in business for years.

Malcolm in the Middle

Plot: Yet another dysfunctional American family.

Lesson: Dysfunctional families are funnier when animated.

Friends

Plot: Friends hang out together.

Lesson: If you have a group of exactly six mixed gender friends, you no longer need to go to work during the day, look after your child, or do everyday task unless it is relevant to your character.

South Park

Plot: Through childlike innocence and adult jokes, every issue in contemporary society is tackled.

Lesson: Offensive jokes hurt no one and encourage understanding.
