SportsSorry Americans, this page pretty much applies to British or European sports. In fact, it's pretty much dedicated to football (or soccer). Football Manifesto - A guide to the advancement of Scottish ffootball. - - - - - - - 07/01/06: Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Scharzer has had his request to be transfer-listed accepted. Since his arrival in 1997, Scharzer has become a Boro legend with his talent and consistency. However, his lacklustre performances of recent have earned him boo's and taunts from his own fans. Scharzer has this season looked like a (very) poor man's Thierry Henry. Moments of genius that can turn a game around generally disguise the appalling laziness that otherwise blights his performance. As a Middlesbrough fan, I will not be particularly sad to see this familiar face leave the club. Yes, he has been brilliant over the years, but at this late stage in his career it is hard to see him regaining the form that has made him so popular. I would be happy to see him leave a legend rather than a villain. And in his absence perhaps we will see the emergence of his fellow countryman Brad Jones.
Dundee United's Mark Wilson has been the centre of much transfer speculation recently. The youngster has been constantly linked with Celtic, but has more recently become the target of Hearts and various English clubs. I have always enjoyed watching Wilson at United and would been sad to see him leave, but to be fair to the player, he needs to move elsewhere to improve. At Dundee Utd, Wilson is always the best player on the pitch. I cannot recall him ever losing the ball or letting someone past him. Maybe his crossing and passing could improve, but he is constantly outstanding where he is. Perhaps at a club like Celtic Wilson could develop his game, and a regular place in the Scotland squad is surely than not far off. He is certainly a better player than any of the current Scottish nationals. Unfortunately for Utd fans, Wilson looks set for Park Head with the sale of Sutton freeing up enough money to offer Wilson a contract Utd could never hope to match.
