Palaeontology is the study of ancient life. Palaeontologists are the scientists who study the remains of ancient life, fossils and the rocks they are found in. Most folks that are in the field have a passion for their work.
Palaeontologists can work on location at a dig site close to home or half way across the world. Some have been known to dive underwater to collect their findings. But the only real constant in fossil finding is that it involves hard work and patience.
The pictures above are of the typical environments: a cross-section layered rock formation and a museum lab. Much different but both share the same philosophy of discovery. Most palaeontologists don't make much money, but then again, that is not why they are in the field.
