Though only a very young composer in comparison to most of the other musical minds around today, Thyssen has found the need to express his musical views in the form of essays on music as well as in his music itself. His primary essay is Ars Nova, a sort of musical manifesto. It was honored as the 'Most Inspired' personal narrative at the MLO annual banquet in fall of 2002.

Other essays include treatises on 20th century compositional trends, movements, and techniques as well as several analyses on various musical topics ranging from the harmonic/rhythmic structure of Le Sacre du Printemps to the affect Berg's Wozzeck had on the musical psyche of the 20th century.

More essays will be added in the future.
