Miscellaneous Wills, Volume 1 (DAR Library) p. 64, In the name of God, Amen; I, John Hudnall of the County of Bedford, being of sound mind and disposing memory do make this my last will and testament. As mine first set of children by another wife who was Patsy Newman, daughter of Nimrod Newman, drew the shares to which they were entitled on account of their mother and which never came into mine hands. I desire that the legacy herein after left to my present wife Frances Miles Hudnall who was the daughter of Samuel McGhee, deceased, shall after her decease be equally divided among the children of said wife Freances whom I had by her, that is to say, William Champion Americus Vespucious Hudnall, Charles Decatur Hudnall, Julius Anderson Hudnall, Sophia Hudnall now Sophia Claytor, Elias Boudinette Hudnall, Melinda Hudnall, Samuel Henry Hudnall and Walton Plumer Hudnall and I give the same to them and their forever. Item 2; I give and bequeath unto my wife aforesaid Frances Miles Hudnall the whole of my estate both real and personal during her natural life to have, hold, possess and enjoy the same to her use and benefit, and for the support and maintenance of my younger children now under age and living with me under the control and management of my executors. If wife remarry she to have her third of mine estate. Item 3; My estate of every kind so left for the benefit of my wife subject to provisions made in the aforesaid clause. Item 4; Executors to pay or invest at their descretion $40 for the benefit of each of my children by my first wife that I here name that is to say, Nancy Nowell, Betsy Edgar, Susan McGhee, Sally Wright and Cena Hardy and the children of my deceased daughter Polly Walker who are to have their mothers part ...... Item 7; I do hereby constitute and appoint my wife, Frances, execurris and William C. A. V. Hudnall and Julius Anderson Hudnall, executors of this my last will ..... In witness, whereof, I have hereto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of Sept. 1844, in presence of W. L. Goggins, Archibald Wade, Sr. and Nancy Wade
