From a letter to Mr. W. T. Hudnell of Suffolk, Virginia date August 21, 1929 from the Nationial Archives in Virginia.
Dear Sir:
The Revolutionary War Records of this office fails to show a claim for pension or bounty land on file based upon the military service of Robert Hudnall or Willis Hudnall, all spellings of the names searched.
The record of the only John Hudnall that is found on the Revol. War records of this office is furnished you herein as found in the papers on file in claim, W.25806, based upon his military service in that war.
John Hudnall was born June 22, 1763, in Goochland County, Virginia. The names of his parents are not designated. While a resident of Bedford County, Virginia, John Hudnall enlisted in May or June 1780, served as private in Captain Cottrell's Virginia Company and was discharged in July 1780. He enlisted in January 1781, and served three months as private in Captain John Trigg's Company, Colonel Merriweather's Virginia Regiment. He enlisted in May or June 1781, and served seven weeks as private in Captain Thomas Leftwich's Company, Colonel Holt Richardson's Virginia Regiment
He was allowed pension on his application executed May 28, 1833, at which time he was a resident of Russell Parish, Bedford County, Virginia. He was then caled John Hudnall, Sr. He died October 19, or 20, 1844, in Bedford County, Virginia.
John Hudnall married, place not stated, December 5, 1793, Patsey, daughter of Nimrod Newman. The date and place of her death and her age are not shown. John Hudnall married March 7, 1811, in Bedford County, Virginia, Miss Frances Miles McGhee. she was born February 8, 1789, place and the names of her parents are not stated
She was allowed pension on her application executed April 30, 1853, at which time she was a resident of Bedford County, Virginia. She applied for bounty land April 25, 1956, at which time she was living in Bedford County. She was allowed one hundred sixty acres of bounty land, on account of the Revolutionary War services of John Hudnall, on warrant No. 34817, under the Act of March 3, 1856.
