AliceS.jpg (150623 bytes)Alice Matilda Robinson was born June 30, 1874 to Thomas W. Robinson and Matilda Ann Smith at Deavertown, Ohio.  Her family moved to Coffeeville, Kansas where her father passed away in 1878.  Her mother and her two older sisters moved back to McLuney, Ohio where her mother passed away in 1882.  Her older sister Rose was bonded out to a family in Ohio and Lucy and Alice at the age of 8 were sent by covered wagon to La Farge to live with her mother's brother Henry Smith.
In 1890 she was united in marriage to Sam Ellsworth Strait and to this union were born 13 children.  She lived most of her life at Ottervale, except for the past 10 years which were spent with her daughter in Cazenovia.  She had been invery good health except for the 10 days preceding her passing when she was confined to the hospital.
Preceding her in death were her husband, a son Frederick, a son Wiliam, a daughter Ada, and two babies who died in infancy.  She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter Lottie, Mrs. Nels Nelson, of Hayward, Wisconsin; a daughter Madie, Mrs. Doad Thomas, of Couer d A'lene Idaho; a daughter Delsie, Mrs. Lloyd McCormick, Chili Wisconsin; a daughter Constance, Mrs. Lawrence Stephen, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; a son Rex, of La Valle, Wisconsin; a son Max, of Cazenovia; a daugher Virginia, Mrs. Frank Brown, of Cazenovia, Wisconsin; some 60 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Services were held March 18, 1969 at the United Methodist Church at La Farge and burial was in the Bear Creek Cemetery.
