DAVID MCALLAN RACING

Made In Scotland

Straight from the Sporran Archive

21/03/04 Mildenhall

This will be the first time anything non-alcoholic has came out of my sporran, by the way a sporran is a small bag that hangs between your legs as part of traditional Scottish dress I hasten to add.

Changes for the Braves, Trevor Harding is riding exclusively for Kings Lynn following a successful Premier season taking his average above the CL threshold. Mark Thompson moves to Weymouth, good luck to Thommo a new track can be daunting. We will miss Pete Boast hes a good team-mate and a brave racer.

New faces this season, James Cockle back from injury, confident and eager, Simon Lambert will improve with every meeting and knows the Saddle Bow Road circuit as well as anyone. Darren Rolph can make an impact from reserve and make a name for himself. Me, myself, I will be aiming to help the youngsters as much as I can, being made club captain is a real honour and I intend to fulfil this role to the best of my ability.

P.S. Watch out for Paul Cooper, at which club I couldnt say but one for the future.

Well, up your kilt and Ill speak to you soon.

11/04/04 Wimbeldon

How U Doin

Carmarthen; this was my first meeting of the season and also my first meeting where I didnt need my helmet with the snorkel attachment. I had some trouble buying my breakfast just over the Welsh border. The food service technician at a famous roadside caf told me they didnt accept Euro notes. He was confused enough when I told him it was a Scottish twenty but you should have seen his face when the elastic shot it straight back into my wallet from his till!

The meeting itself; after heat 8, it was all over for the Dragons; no way could they fight back from that deficit and the final score might even have flattered them.

James C was flying and trapping like a demon, along with the flair of Darren Rolph and Ritchie Dennis - what a team - everyone was outstanding from one to seven. The atmosphere in the pits was top class, I am confident that we can make a serious challenge for league honours this year.

Should be a good match tonight with my former Stoke team-mates from 2000, Wayne Broadhurst and Mark Buzz Burrows. I'm also looking forward to racing Gavin Hedge - hes a good mate whos been through a lot recently - its really good to see him back.

Lets have a good meeting and give the Dons a long drive home after a good old-fashioned gubbing.

Up yer kilt.

02/05/04 Rye House

Hows it hanging?

Today we welcome the Rye House Raiders. We were recently on the wrong end of a hammering from the Raiders at Hodderson. On a personal level I was very disappointed with my performance, but today its a clean slate and I know we can do it.

Our last meeting at Weymouth was another wet affair; Im starting to think Jet Skiing could be an alternative career choice. When I was doing a bit of gardening at the starting gate it was creating a nice water feature, but not ideal for getting away from the tapes. We carried on racing as long as possible but by heat nine the track was drenched.

Well done to John Oliver; he was unwell but showed great team spirit to turn out for the Weymouth meeting and battled well.

One sight I found interesting on Saturday was the burnt out Brighton Pier, (reminded me a bit of Ashfield). Its a shame no one has restored it; the sea front looked great.

Lets have a good meeting tonight and give Rye House a right royal gubbing. I have made a bet with my old mechanic that if I dont score a maximum I need to decorate his new house, well he had better hope I do well because the last time I painted something you could have walked up it with your bare feet.

Thanks to Gerhardsson Motor AB (Sweden) for my points tonight, Robert, you never let me down, that carburettor goes like stink.

Cheers and Ta, Up yer Kilt.

16/05/04 Stoke Spitfires

Hows it Hanging?

Today we welcome Dave Tatum and the Stoke Spitfires.

Unfortunately Darren M was hurt at Buxton on Sunday past and at the time of writing Darren was due in theatre for pins in his ankle, along with a broken wrist and concussion . In one of the most serious accidents Ive witnessed, Get better soon Darren.

The trip to the peak district on Sunday was a disappointment for most the squad, with only Ritchie Dennis and Darren Rolph leaving happy with there overall performances. However a wee mention for John Oliver, I was impressed with his 100% never say die attitude.

So step forwards Simon Lambert. After a long trip north Simon took his place in the British Under 15 Championship second round at Armadale, After four races Simon was leading the field as the only unbeaten rider. In his last race Heat 19 he faced Waldron 11pts and Autly 11pts, as Autly and Waldron contested a very close half lap Autly ran into hard into turn 3 and in the slippy conditions did a 360 degree pirouette letting the bike go in the process, Poor Simon had nowhere to go and was left nursing a sore leg and Dad with a bruised wallet.

Up Yer Kilt!

Hows it Hanngin

Well its been a while since my last sporrin piece and a lots been happening. The seasons over , Hull scoped the honours in the Premier league, and again Mildenhall had a domineering season in the conference. A few great moments of the 2004 season: Taking part in the Conference pairs at Wimbeldon, during the meeting , myself and Richard (Hall) had started like trains , defeating David (Magic) Mason and partner from Weymouth. And then overcoming the Welsh Dragons from Carmarthen. And then it went slightly astray with a brake down from Richard in our next ride against Mildenhall, alough on a personal note I had a good race passing the current Under 21 Champ and Berwick rider Ritchie Hawkins , however Jon Armstrong had the race sewing up. In The next we lined up against the Rye House pairing of Steve Boxhaul and Tommy Allen. After a great start off gate 4 and leading down into turn 3 I lost control and climbed the fence leaving partner Richard to take the win. A great day however we finished 4th on the night had I not hit the fence and Rich not had problems we could have won.

An away win for any club in speedway is well sought after and did we get an away win at none other than Mildenhall . On the day with James Cockle ill and riding at only 65% fit, Darren Rolph nursing a very painful back injury (after guesting for Glasgow at Reading a the Premier League match), and the true star for the tie John Oliver who himself suffering from a Bad Flu bug . Got to grips with West row circuit and set about giving Mildenhall a good hiding. Mildenhall were not without there problems ether with James Brundle hurt in a bad road smash on the same day. However that was a great day for Boston and a great day for Conference league Speedway .

During an away match to Rye House we had sewed up the match after two legs going into Heat 15 and the Gaffer wanted to go all out war and put me and Rolph into the last one. Personally I wanted to go with Ritchie Dennis and My great bud Wayne Dunworth. Whom both had a difficult evening and both there spirits were low and needed laps to boost them. After a wee tussle of words with the gaffer. I put my helmet on and lined up on gate two. However the tapes were broken and with the Green light on the gaffer was cursing under his breath at his captain . All not lost I went of 15 Meters and passed both Rye house raiders to back up my partner to win the match, to the delight of the Boston travelling support.

The night I got hurt at Edinburgh was a little upsetting because of the weather and it was the contributing factor to both Ben and I getting hurt. After the third race we all knew the track was dangerous and the meeting had to be abandoned but the team managers made a deal with the referee and the decision was taken away from the captains and the riders the decision was to have no re-runs!!! Anyhow the meeting was abandoned with both Ben and myself in the Ambulance, a decision a race too late.

A big thanks to : Gordon Pairman without his help my trips to Boston could have never happened. A true gentleman.

Malcolm (ponytail, The Gaffer) Vasey a top bloke, my phone bill certainly went up once I became pals with him.

Stephen Lambert. A great lad, very straight forwards. Mr Boston Speedway for the efforts he and his family have put into getting Boston back , I only wish his dreams of a track in Boston was helped by their council. Good Luck Stephen.

Mick Smith, the quiet one of the trio, until you get to know him!!! Some of this lads jokes could stand up by themselves, a great guy, whom has helped share the financial burden of a club without a home.

Jim Syme the friendly starting marshal from Edinburgh who has Helped and supported me since 1997. Many sponsors come and go but Jim has helped through thick and thin, While I race for Berwick, Edinburgh or Glasgow a true Star. Thanks Jim

CPW, The Youngies, Donald and Nan, Ian and Lorraine Telford, Cammy of Alexander Browns Plumbing, Wayne Dunworth and Family, THR, Robert Eriksson of Gerhardsson Motor in Sweden, Graham and Linda Maben of the Fulfilment Factory and my supporting family.

Up yer Kilt till next year , Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year.
