| The highest sumo rank is yokozuna followed in descending order by oozeki, sekiwake, komusubi, and maegashira. A wrestler who has attained the rank of oozeki may rise to the rank of yokozuna if he wins two consecutive sumo tournaments and has demonstrated consistent strength to the satisfaction of the Japan Sumo Federation. |
