| Behind me is the dohyoo, a sacred place where sumo wrestlers battle. The lower ranked wrestlers are shown in this photo. When the higher ranked wrestlers start, the stadium will be packed. The object of a sumo match (there are 15 in one tournament) is to force one's opponent to touch the ground with a part of his body (except the soles of his feet) or to push him from the ring. There are 70 different techniques (or moves) that may be used to do this. |
