We have finally started our much discussed and long awaited trip. The plan still is to fly ourselves and the bikes from Sydney in Australia to Dhaka in Bangladesh and from there to ride through India to Nepal; back into India; across to Pakistan and then up the Karakoram Highway to the Chinese border; back down and across into Iran; then to Turkey; and then south to Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. Then, provided things in the region are safe and stable, we plan to ride down into Israel to catch the boat from Haifa to Greece. A quick dash through Italy, a side trip to Spain to attend Dave's brother's stag night, then it's northwards through France on a deadline to get to the Lawson ancestral home at Argaty in time for the wedding of the first-born on July 21st.
At least that's the plan...
But it's not all beer and skittles - we're also hoping to use the trip as a way to raise money for a very deserving charity. CRP, the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Savar, Bangladesh, is the first port of call on our journey and an inspiring starting point. If you'd like to read more about it, or are interested in making a donation or helping with the fundraising, just go to our CRP page.
