Being born into a Jewish family, but living most of my life as an atheist, I spent a lot of time during my studies trying to understand the basics of Christianity:

Does God exist?

Is the Bible the word of God?

Did Jesus walk the earth and was he the Son of God?

The following books helped me answer these questions.  To view more information about each book, or to purchase them on-line, click on the book image or the title.

True & Reasonable by Douglas Jacoby
Larry Brown recommended this book to me.  This is a great book investigating the basic facts of Christianity.

The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel
Robert Gauntt gave me this book.  The Case for Christ records Lee Strobel's attempt to "determine if there's credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God." The book consists primarily of interviews between Strobel (a former legal editor at the Chicago Tribune) and biblical scholars.
The Source by John N. Clayton
My brother in-law, Ed Doss, and my friend Ben Chaib, both from Phoenix, recommended this book to me (Ben actually gave it to me!).  This book is a great book for those looking for scientific "evidence" regarding God's existence.

The book can be purchased by mail order only.  For more information and to receive a catalog, click here.

Articles by John Clayton:

A Practical Man's Proof of God

A Help in Understanding What God Is

The Life Application Study Bible
As a new Christian, I feel the need to read additional commentary when I read the scriptures.  This is a great Bible with a lot of great features that help me apply the Bible to my daily life.

There are also a leather bound version and a large print version.
