The Left Door
Corik stepped up to the door and gave a light tap, partly hoping someone would answer and partly wishing the room was empty. When no answer came he breathed a sigh, though he wasn’t sure if it was out of relief or frustration, perhaps both.
He pressed the green button on the control pad and the door opened. I guess locking the doors is not a priority in this hotel, Corik remarked in his head. Inside the vacant room were a small bed and a few empty shelves. On the end of the bed lying in front of it was a small strongbox. Corik couldn’t help but check to see if this was open too. And in fact it was, Corik found, when he pressed the release button; unhinging and opening the chest.
Inside was an interesting piece of headgear Corik had never seen before. It was small, and it seemed to fit tightly and snuggly around his head. It was basically a few miniscule wires attached to a few transponder chips. The label read “neural receptor” on it. He picked it up and put it on. He immediately felt a difference, as his eyes were moving quicker and his mind was picking up images slightly faster. The find was a good one, and he headed out towards the other door with a smile on his face.
Corik found a neural receptor!
