In the Shop

Corik decided the shop would be the best place to try. He walked in, hearing a chime sound at his entrance, though nobody in the store seemed to react to it. Corik saw three figures. One was a small rodent-like creature, a *Teek in Corik’s estimation. It had pointed ears, scruffy white fur, and beady black eyes. Corik guessed he was the owner of the shop given that he was behind the counter. Teek’s were usually very chattery, but this one was silent, staring at the two others across from it.
The two it was looking at consisted of an **Aqualish, a large and aggressive humanoid with round black eyes and dark brown skin, and a Rodian, a green, antenna-sporting, bug-eyed humanoid. The Rodian tapped the Aqualish on the shoulder, who was at the time looking towards the counter. He turned around and they chattered wildly for a few moments. The words, although loud, were spat out quickly and feverishly, and Corik didn’t catch all of them. The Rodian then pulled out a lightsaber, igniting it to reveal a deep yellow beam. It didn’t surprise Corik as much as the first one he had seen awhile ago however, and the yellow color was a little more reassuring. The Aqualish went for his blaster, though he was taken down before he could even get a hold on it. The Rodian then holstered his saber back up as he paid the Teek, perhaps for the mess or to compensate for the loss of a customer. He turned and walked toward Corik, who shuddered, praying he wouldn’t suffer the same fate as the merchant now on the ground. The Jedi spoke in Corik’s language, ***Galactic Basic, in a much more relaxed tone.

“So you inquire about a ship? Would you like to come with me? I do have a ship, but I don’t have a reason not to take you. So I guess that about settles it, as long as you’re still interested.”

“There’s a catch, there has to be.” Corik thought out loud, not even thinking about the fact that his mind had been read. “Nobody just asks a random stranger to hop on board their vessel with them. What if I’m dangerous?”

“If you happen to be more dangerous than that large beast of a creature over there, perhaps I should have thought twice before asking, but if not I think I’ll take my chances. Besides, the fact that you asked me implies that you aren’t, so good luck trying to convince me otherwise. Well, not that you would if you were…”

Corik chuckled. The Jedi was witty and, though a little rash, very humorous. Corik regained his serious tone and restated his question, “But nonetheless there is a purpose for asking me. There is no reason not to, but unless there is a reason to the former by default has reason.”

“Well put,” the Jedi complimented. “There is in fact a reason. Your connection to the Force is startling, enough that when you came in the building I was drawn to it, though as you saw I had other matters to attend to at the time. I welcome you to come back to the Jedi Order on Coruscant to train and learn the ways of the Force. You have a special gift, I would not put it to waste.”

Corik thought for a moment. I could be a Jedi... It took him a moment to fully comprehend what that meant. And then he considered his options. He would learn and gain so much if he went, not to mention he would have a ride off the planet. He may even be able to complete his intentions by bringing the matter of his planet’s destruction to the courts. But he would also be sacrificing some, for he would be confined to the rules of the Order. When he answered, he wasn’t even sure what he was going to say…

Accept his offer and go with him to the ship

Decline his offer and leave

*Teek- Teeks are rodentlike, simian creatures that live in the forest moon of Endor. They have long, pointed ears, scruffy white fur, and beady black eyes. They communicate by constant chattering. They wear clothes with many belts, pouches and pockets for the things they have managed to steal.

**Aqualish- A bellicose humanoid species with some superficial properties both aquatic and arachnid, the Aqualish of Ando can be found the galaxy over. They have hair-lined faces with large, glassy eyes and mouths dominated with inwardly-pointing tusks. The species has a reputation for being nasty, crude and aggressive, and generally pursue careers as mercenaries, bounty hunters and pirates.

***Galactic Basic- Galactic Basic is the official trade language of the Republic, spoken or understood by most civilized systems.
