Button Combo

He hit the buttons in that order, lighting up the three sections as he pressed them. When they were all lit he looked toward the machine, hoping for something to happen. When nothing did, he turned back to the panel, hoping to try another set of combinations, but the panel was locked and powered off. Great, a security measure for guessers. I guess I’m out of luck. His thoughts didn’t humor him in the least, for he knew he was right. The controls wouldn’t power back up until long after he needed them.
The robot had advanced halfway down the tunnel by now, his range being deadly close. After a few dodges and jumps, Corik knew he couldn’t defeat this thing by avoiding it. He attempted to leap forward, but just before he did the machine had launched a rocket from its arsenal. It took less than a second to reach Corik, and though it was a speed missile its power was well beyond that of anything Corik could defend or destroy. Before he could think he was flying backward, and a pile of dirt followed his corpse to the ground, burying him where he lay.
