Both Buttons Together
Corik wasn’t in the least bit sure of which button to press. Perhaps it was a trick. Maybe hitting them both together was what was needed. He smashed the two buttons three times, the third time holding them down. The lights lit up as he smashed them, and as he held them down the whole panel lit up. For a split second he thought It’s Working! Only for a second…
The panel began sparking. He saw a flame emerge through one of the keys at the bottom. He took his hands off the buttons, hoping that would end it. The sparking stopped and he sighed in relief. He turned to face the robot again, and as he watched it approach heard a high pitched tone beeping. It wasn’t the robot. He turned again as the beeping turned into steady wave of sound. Oh- he thought, or began to think before his mind, along with the rest of his body, was mangled by the massive explosion that sent him flying across the width of the tunnel. Wow that was stupid completed his thought, it being his last.
