Blaster Rifle
He grabbed the rifle and ran outside. He looked around in the direction the noise was mainly coming from. Fighters and troops off in the distance bore symbols he didn’t recognize. He didn’t know what was going on, but amount of blaster and ship fire indicated it wasn’t just some trigger happy raiding party. No, this was something much bigger.
He looked ahead to see a group of hunters heading out of a small shed not twenty meters from his hut. As he sprinted to catch up, he realized the only thing in the direction they ran was the barracks, located about a 1/3 of a mile ahead of them across the sand. Being the most fortified structure in the area, that must have been where they were headed.
Corik glanced at the man farthest back in the group. He had straight medium length hair and a slim figure. When he turned his head, Corik recognized his face. It was Corik’s good friend Jethra, from the orphanage.
Corik smiled as Jethra shouted in excitement. They exchanged greetings but got little more out amidst the sprinting from being quite out of breathe. Corik knew they could catch up later, once they were safe. He was just glad to see him again.
Fighters and bombers were all across the sky in the distance. He saw two of them from over above the barracks begin heading there way. The distance they still had to go across the open sand to reach the barracks was long, too long; they wouldn’t make it, and they couldn’t hide anywhere to avoid the ships either. They would need to return fire.
Corik began firing his rifle in the direction of the oncoming ships. Almost instantly the hunters followed suit, concentrating the entire groups power at the two fighters. As they came within range, the fighters began returning fire. Corik and the hunters darted away from the lasers that headed for them and quickly recovered. Corik delivered a critical shot to one of the ships as it flew above him. It burst into flames and landed about 20 meters away from where he stood. The other was taken down shortly after.
Corik stumbled over to the fiery rubble in the midst of the victory cries from the hunters. Among the wreckage Corik found a power converter completely intact and fully functional. He packed it away and sprinted to catch up with the rest of the group as they closed in on the barracks.
Jethra was there, holding the trap door open for everyone to proceed through the back entrance to the barracks. The front entrance was already being tackled by numerous assault droids. Corik knew getting here was not the end. No, the battle was just beginning…

Corik has found a power converter!
