Bacta
Corik walked over to Master Jurix and without thinking poured the contents of the bacta container onto his open wounds. The effects were immediate, as the burn marks began to minimize and close up, and he felt Master Jurix’s pulse become stronger. When he awoke and began talking, Corik told him what had happened. Master Jurix said he would be alright, and was proud of Corik for not tolerating the evils of the Sith as the Jedi Council had.
“Why’d you and the other Jedi go along with Capula? Couldn’t he be defeated?” Corik asked.
“We were afraid of the people’s reaction to his death. That Sith made a mess, and all we could do was concede or risk the Republic’s collapse. But you took that risk, and for that I’m glad, despite how you handled it. You let your hatred control you however, and you will learn from its consequences.”
And as Corik feared, the consequences were great. The Senate refused to believe Corik’s story about the death of President Capula, for there was a lack of physical evidence. The death was recorded as assassination, a planned attempt by the Jedi Council. However, Master Jurix’s testimony lightened the sentence. The Council was put under arrest, and each Jedi served 2 years in prison, Corik spending 5 for the personal carrying out of the “plans” for the crime. Capula was shut down due to lack of leadership and depression arose. The Senate worked to restore order, and despite the rough times those first few years following that day of change, the Republic was in for a better future.
Corik saw that future out. Years later he was released from prison, and it took decades after that before the people and the Senate began trusting the Jedi again as keepers of the pace. However, the Jedi’s numbers grew, and true justice, order, and peace began to service the Republic in full like never before. Corik died after ninety-five years of strong and honorable service. After becoming one with the Force, he reunited with his friend Jethra, never to leave him again.
