Steamrolling through the first two rounds, Mexico's only real challenge came in the third stage when they faced the likes of the USA and Costa Rica.  And while they managed to over come both nations at least once (only the US took 3 points from them), it was Panama that nicked a point and Trinidad and Tobago that defeated them to be the only nations outside of automatic qualifying nations to take a points off the CONCACAF giant.

67 goals saw one major goal scorer in Jared Borgetti who leads the world cup goalscorers list on 14. Jamie Lozano netted 11 goals and Jose Fonseca 10 which in any other team would lead the table
