| Important Tips |
| Use reverse osmosis water to top-off and do water changes. During the winter, many water companies add an extra amount of phosphates to tap water to prevent pipes from freezing. If this high level of phosphates gets into your aquarium, it can cause slime and/or hair algae. If you use RO water, you are are almost guaranteed that the water is pure. |
